Flipbugs[1] areenemies inSuper Mario Galaxy andSuper Mario Galaxy 2. They are small, timid beetles withMandibug-style faces that appear mostly in nature-themedgalaxies.

Super Mario Galaxy[edit]
Flipbugs debut inSuper Mario Galaxy and itsNintendo Switchport, first appearing as very common enemies in theHoneyhive Galaxy. WhenMario orLuigi approach one, it panics at the sight of him and then attempts slowly flying away from him while flailing frantically, eventually tiring out and tipping onto its back for several moments. When upside-down, it is vulnerable to any attack, including simply walking into it, defeating it instantly. Even while Flipbugs are fleeing, they can be touched without Mario taking damage, and they can be attacked to flip them onto their backs early. IfBee Mario orBee Luigi approaches, however, they begin slowly hovering towards him with an angry expression, damaging him if one touches him without him attacking it. Attacking them in this state causes them to flip over as they otherwise would. In theGusty Garden Galaxy, some appear only when astump isground-pounded.

Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
Flipbugs return inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 and its Nintendo Switchport with the same behavior, though this time, they are often found hidden inside opaquecrystals. Additionally,Yoshi is able to flip Flipbugs automatically by hitting them with his tongue.
