Flaptacks[1] are bird-like enemies appearing exclusively inSuper Mario Galaxy 2 and itsNintendo Switchport. They each have anoblate blue body with a yellow underside and a sharp spike on top of their head. They hover idly, patrolling a certain area. WhenMario (orLuigi) approaches one, it hovers above him for a while, then flips upside down and slams downwards in an attempt to damage him. If it misses, it will remain stuck on the ground for a while, leaving its underbelly open to beingstomped. Flaptacks can also be defeated by luring their slam attack into apit, or by being hit with aspin, whether they are grounded or airborne. They release threeStar Bits when spun into and acoin whenjumped on. Flaptacks can destroyCloud Lifts when slamming down, as well asCloud Mario's cloud platforms.
Flaptacks appear in the following galaxies:
- Fluffy Bluff Galaxy ("Search for the Toad Brigade Captain", "Every Planet Has Its Price")
- Cloudy Court Galaxy ("Head in the Clouds", "Silver Stars in the Purple Pond")
- Flash Black Galaxy ("Jumping Around in the Dark")

Naming[edit]
"Flaptack" is a combination of "flap" and "tack", alluding to its wings and spikes, respectively. It is also a pun on "flapjack", another name for a pancake, referring to the shape of its body and its method of attack by flipping upside down.
Names in other languages[edit]
