Flaming Wario,[1][2] also known asHot Wario,[3]Fiery Wario,[4] andFire Wario,[5] is a reaction in theWario Land series. It involves Wario running frantically around an area as fire (similar toMario running around with his overalls on fire fromSuper Mario 64) gradually engulfs him, eventually turning him into a flame that can defeat enemies and destroy certain blocks on contact.

History[edit]

Wario Land series[edit]

Flaming Wario approaching a Bonfire Block.
Flaming Wario inWario Land 4

When hit only by aFlame enemy, aflame torch, aFire Robota, asnake's fiery breath, thesun's fireballs, aKaentsubo, or the flames from aPig Head Statue orAerodent, Wario will comically start racing around with his overalls on fire. In this state, he cannot be controlled, except for jumping. InWario Land II only, he jumps higher when pressing up on+Control Pad and also gains a red-yellow color scheme. After either an amount of time has passed (inWario Land II andWario Land 3) or Wario bounds off a wall or other unbreakable object three times (Wario Land 4 andWario Land: Shake It!, with the former having the fire change colors each time it spreads, from blue, to green, to orange), the flames will spread across his entire body, making him essentially a livingfireball. He can now be fully controlled (although slowed down a bit and no longer able to jump) and can destroyBonfire Blocks. InWario Land II, the fireball does not stop moving, making it less controllable than in the later games where the form stands still if the player is not pressing a direction on the control pad. The state can be cured by falling into water or just waiting until he burns out.

InWario Land: Shake It!, Wario can once again use this form; however, it can only be activated by coming into contact with aFlimflam.

Super Mario-kun[edit]

Flaming Wario makes a minor appearance in volume 28 ofSuper Mario-kun. Aerodent sets Wario on fire.Hoggus attempts to help Wario, but aggravates the situation instead, angering Wario. Wario responds by contacting Hoggus while Wario is encased in fire.

Densetsu no Starfy 3[edit]

Flaming Wario is one of three Wario reactions appearing inDensetsu no Starfy 3, along withBubble Wario andPuffy Wario in Wario's guest appearance inKaitei Iseki.Starfy can trigger this reaction by using hisStar Spin on certain statues to set Wario alight. It behaves similarly to its appearances in theWario Land series, and is the only way to break the fire blocks that appear in the stage. However, here the transformation continues indefinitely until Wario touches a fire block, upon which he will be extinguished.
