Fire Cup
TheFire Cup is a tournament introduced inMario Power Tennis as the first of two cups in theGimmick Masters tournament. It takes place in three courts, in no particular order:Luigi's Mansion Court,Gooper Blooper Court, andDK Jungle Court. Its difficulty is comparable to theMushroom Cup. Completing this cup allows the player to proceed to theThunder Cup, the final cup of the tournament.
The Fire Cup is also the first Tournament inMario Strikers Charged in the Road to the Strikers Cup mode. It is split into three rounds- preliminary, final, and championship. During the preliminary round, the player must challenge three other randomly-chosen captains and their teams twice, once away from their home court and once at it for each captain. Every captain is fought once before the pattern is repeated. In order to move on to the final round, the player's team must get into the top 2 of the 4 teams via points (3 for each match won, 0 for each match lost, 1 for each match lost at sudden-death). The finals match is against another random CPU team on a random court. If the player wins this match, they will move onto the championship game, and challenge the current champion.
During the first playthrough of the Fire Cup, the defending champion will beBowser Jr., but during subsequent playthroughs, it will be randomized like every other challenge. The stadium in the championship match will always beThe Lava Pit. The player must win two out of three matches in the game to win the cup and move on to theCrystal Cup. However, if they lose either the finals match or the championship game, they must start the cup over again entirely. After beating the champion, the player unlocksBowser Jr. and The Lava Pit. Additionally, earning both the Golden Foot and Brick Wall Awards during the Fire Cup unlocksThe Wastelands.
