Fires[1] (also known asfireballs,[2][3][4]firefoxes,[5] andfoxfires[6]) areenemies that debuted in the100m level ofDonkey Kong. In most versions, they are depicted as a slightly larger variant of theFireball enemy that appears in other levels.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong[edit]

Sprite of a Fire from Donkey Kong (Arcade)Blue Fire

Fires are encountered only in100 m ofDonkey Kong, including theStart level of theGame Boy version and the port of the arcade version inDonkey Kong 64. Fires are slightly larger than theFireball enemies. Fires can climbladders in only a single direction. By jumping over a Fire,Mario can earnpoints. Fires become blue if Mario is holding ahammer, which is the only way to defeat them. Only up to five Fires can appear onscreen at once in the arcade version, lowered to four in theFamily Computer andNintendo Entertainment System version.

Family BASIC[edit]

Fires are programmable sprites in theFamily BASIC accessory to theFamily Computer, as well as enemies in theStar Killerminigame ofFamily BASIC V3.

NES Remix series[edit]

Fires appear inDonkey Kong-related challenges inNES Remix,NES Remix Pack, andUltimate NES Remix.

Mario Kart World[edit]

Fires make a cameo appearance inMario Kart World on a wall inDK Spaceport.

Fire with cute eyes

The Fire from the GB version of Donkey has a marshmallow-like body and cute eyes. But if you are careless and touch it, you will be burned to a crisp. It is difficult to jump over it, so use a hammer to knock it down.
