AnEvent Space^[1] (also known as aQuestion Mark Space, aHappening Space, aGreen Space,^[2] or a? Space^[3]) is a greenspace with a question mark on it typically found on the various game boards in theMario Party series. Ordinarily, they activate special board-specific events that can change the outcome of a turn or even a whole game. These spaces can be positive or negative, depending on which event is tied to them and how this affects the players.

Wario lands on a ? Space and gets smothered by a snowball that sends him to the start of the stage, fromMario Party 6.

InMario Party 3's Duel Mode, landing on a Happening Space causes a roulette to appear with three random events. In theMario Party 4 Flash game, it prompts the player whether they want to play aminigame. The player can choose to accept or decline the offer. InMario Party 8, the shape of the space differs depending on the board, including the tutorial map. InMario Party: Island Tour, they appear inShy Guy's Shuffle City, and trigger an event wheel; two also appear inBowser's Peculiar Peak, and when one is landed on, it launches the player to the other. In addition, in most games in the series, aBonus Star is awarded to the player that lands on more of these spaces than any other player at the end of the game.

InMario Party 10, Event Spaces only appear in the amiibo Party mode. When landed on, they trigger a roulette that has a random positive effect on the player.

The Event Spaces return inSuper Mario Party,Mario Party Superstars, andSuper Mario Party Jamboree. Unlike previous games, Event Spaces now have an exclamation mark, and landing on one triggers a specific event on each different board. InSuper Mario Party Jamboree, the sound played when landing on an Event Space now depends on the board being played, with each board having its own Event Space sound effect. The character landing on the space will also show a shocked expression before the event is triggered.

Mario Party 3 Duel Map events[edit]

• Restore Heart Pieces: The player's heart meter is fully restored. Does not appear if the player is at full health.
• Switch Places: The player's position is switched with that of their opponent.
• Plus 10/20 Coins: The player acquires 10 or 20Coins.
• Minus 10 Coins: The player loses 10 Coins.
• Return to Start: The player is returned to their respectiveStart Space, and then receives 10 Coins and gains a new partner as usual before their turn ends.
• Get Opponent Spaces: AllBasic Spaces owned by the player's opponent are transferred to the player. Only appears if the opponent owns at least one Basic Space.
• Power Up andPower Down: Power Up doubles the salary, attack and hearts of the player's partners, as if the player landed on aPower Up Space. Power Down returns the salary, attack and hearts of the player's partners to normal. Only one will appear on the roulette wheel at a time.
• Switch Partner Positions: The player's partner(s) switch places, with the front partner moving to the back and vice versa. Only appears if the player has at least one partner.
• Clear All Spaces: All Basic Spaces owned by either player are returned to their blank state. Only appears if at least one Basic Space is owned.
