Egg Blocks, also calledEgg Boxes,[1] are spottedblocks that dispenseYoshi's Eggs forYoshis to use.
History[edit]
Yoshi's Island series[edit]
In theYoshi's Island series, each time an Egg Block is hit from below, a Yoshi's egg is dispensed, unless the Yoshi already has six eggs with him. Besides the common green-spotted Egg Blocks, there are also Yellow, Red, and Flashing Egg Blocks, which, when hit, turn into a singleYellow Egg,Red Egg, orFlashing Egg, respectively. Any Egg Block can be stood on. Hitting an Egg Block from a certain side pushes eggs out in the opposite direction.
InYoshi's New Island, two new Egg Block varieties are introduced. One of them releasesMega Eggdozers, while the other one releasesMetal Eggdozers. Both of them are four times bigger than a normal Egg Block (looking like green-spottedExpansion Blocks). The earlier variety is white, while the latter is black.
Yoshi's Story[edit]
All Egg Blocks inYoshi's Story sport green spots and sway slightly. InWestern releases, the spots on every Egg Block match the color of the Yoshi being played instead.
Super Mario Sunshine[edit]
InSuper Mario Sunshine, Egg Blocks (localized asspotted blocks andspotted boxes)[2] are platforms in the secret courses ofPinna Park. Most have green spots, but there are some that have magenta, blue, and black ones.
Yoshi's Woolly World /Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World[edit]
Egg Blocks are replaced by similarly designed objects known asYarn Baskets inYoshi's Woolly World andPoochy & Yoshi's Woolly World. They can pop open halfway when hit, showing they literally containyarn balls. Yarn balls are the game's equivalent to Yoshi eggs. Hitting a Yarn Basket from the bottom releases one yarn ball, and hitting it with a yarn ball from any side releases three at once. This respects the maximum number of yarn balls that a Yoshi can currently carry, so more yarn balls cannot appear if there are as many or more yarn balls in the course as that maximum. The yarn ball used to hit the Yarn Basket despawns in the process, even if it is abig yarn ball. Sometimes, a Yarn Basket makes a big yarn ball instead of a normal yarn ball. If a Yoshi is using the "Make all yarn balls big!"Power Badge, Yarn Baskets always release a number of big yarn balls to fill the Yoshi up to the maximum number of yarn balls no matter how they are hit. InPoochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, if a Yoshi is inMellow Mode or has switched from Mellow Mode to Classic Mode without scrolling the Yarn Basket off the screen at any point afterward, Yarn Baskets appear to be empty. This ties into the functionality of thePoochy Pups, who can optionally replace yarn balls in Mellow Mode. While the Poochy Pups are out, Yarn Baskets do not release yarn balls. However, they release yarn balls when the Poochy Pups are in their button, even though they appear to not contain yarn balls. Poochy Pups, unlike yarn balls, bounce off of Yarn Baskets.
Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]
Egg Blocks inYoshi's Crafted World uniquely dispense eggs depending on which direction the Yoshi is facing.
WarioWare: Get It Together![edit]
Egg Blocks appear in levels 2 and 3 of theYoshi's Story microgame inWarioWare: Get It Together![3][4]
Other appearances[edit]
Egg Blocks appear in theYoshi's Island Zone stage ofSonic Lost World, though only three Yoshi Eggs can ever emerge from them, regardless of how many are following Sonic.
