Dribble andSpitz are majoranthropomorphic animal characters in theWarioWare series. The duo consists of Dribble, an orange bulldog, and Spitz, a small, squinting yellow cat, and together, they runDiamond Taxi as cabbies. They drivea taxi that has been improved byDr. Crygor[3] and is capable of traveling into space, among other things. They often carry passengers that turn out to be supernatural in some way. The two are easily distracted and therefore forget to collect fares from these passengers. In the original Japanese, they speak inKansai dialect, which is stereotypically associated with fun-loving, boisterous characters;[3] in the English versions, they speak withBronx accents. Both of their names come from synonyms for saliva.

Dribble and Spitz's stage in WWMM
Dribble & Spitz's stage inMega Microgame$!

Dribble & Spitz are first seen in the intro scene ofWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, in which they are recruited byWario to join his company,WarioWare, Inc., and they agree to producemicrogames for him.

In their own story, Dribble & Spitz drive up and downDiamond City late at night and pick up a young boy or girl (named after theplayer) who asks to be taken tothe sea, recalling a voice sounding just like it. As it begins to rain, Dribble tunes the radio to a station playing "Drifting Away", a song alluding to that very sea. When they arrive at the pier, the person walks to the edge, transforms into a merperson in front of them, and jumps in the sea, bidding them farewell. Fascinated by this strange phenomenon until dawn breaks, they eventually realize that they forgot to collect the passenger's fare. After, they drive to theGelateria and get a cone of gelato each.

In the epilogue of Wario's second story, Dribble & Spitz confront Wario with the rest of the WarioWare, Inc. staff to demand their pay. When he runs away, they are shocked. They later watch his rocketship fall into the sea afterDr. Crygor bumps into it. Dribble also appears in an unlockable minigame calledVS Dong Dong, where he fights againstMona.

InWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, Dribble & Spitz's microgames are of theSci-Fi genre. "Drifting Away" plays for the entirety of the stage.WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$! also features Dribble & Spitz's Sci-Fi microgames, as well as a mini-game created by them calledMilky Way Delirium, which uses similarly themed elements.

WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$![edit]

InWarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$!, Dribble & Spitz are traveling around Diamond City, where they are called upon by a woman who is reallyOrbulon in disguise. She asks them to take her to the farthest reaches of outer space, which Dribble happily agrees to. After driving on a stretch of road, the taxi flies into space. When they arrive, Orbulon's disguise wears off. After passing by a planetoid, the taxi gets dragged into theUFO and Orbulon, after thanking Dribble & Spitz, makes them his underlings. The two shout "numbskull" at Orbulon, causing a nearby asteroid to approach the UFO. It misses them, but more asteroids hit the UFO and causes it to fall back down to Earth and land in Dr. Crygor's laboratory. The three greet him when he falls back into his lab. After, Dribble & Spitz use their taxi to float on water, and they, Orbulon and Dr. Crygor travel to the mainland. During the journey, Spitz tunes in to watch the Super Show. They are also seen atRestaurant Sora Sora.

Dribble & Spitz's Sci-Fi microgames return in this game. The two also host the multiplayer modeMilky Way Delirium. They are also available to play as in the multiplayer modes. When played as, Dribble's and Spitz's entire outfits excluding Dribble's watch and the base of Spitz's goggles are tinted in the player's color.

WarioWare: Twisted![edit]

InWarioWare: Twisted!, Dribble & Spitz drive throughInterstate 310, where Spitz fiddles about with the taxi radio. Suddenly, the taxi breaks down, and during their microgames stage, they try to fix it. They fix it in the end, but Dribble decides to push a button that transforms the taxi, and takes them into space. Before long, they pick upOcktor, an alien customer that asks them to take it toClub Sugar. When they arrive, they dance on the dance floor. They make another appearance in the epilogue ofWario-Man's story, driving in their taxi.

Dribble & Spitz's microgames inWarioWare: Twisted! involve a particular style of gameplay rather than a specific visual theme, which was also continued for the next games in the series untilWarioWare: D.I.Y. In this game, their set of microgames is called Steer Clear and require tilting the Game Boy Advance and pressing theA Button Button. Before their stage begins, the player can choose between the songs "Dribble & Spitz" and "Taxi Sonata" and a baseball game to play in the background.

Dribble & Spitz also appear inWarioWare Twisted Marble Maze Game, where they can both be seen on the Round 3 board.

WarioWare: Touched![edit]

While Dribble & Spitz do not have their own microgame stage inWarioWare: Touched!, they make a brief appearance at the end ofMike's story, where they are called upon byDr. Crygor to help him look for his missing robot, and eventually find him on the planet of theAlien Bunnies. Their taxi also appears in the character selection screen every time one or more characters are unlocked.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves[edit]

Dribble & Spitz appear once again inWarioWare: Smooth Moves. On the map, Dribble repeatedly eats a chocolate bar and gets choked up, surprising Spitz. In their opening movie, a curtain rises as spotlights move around. Once they converge on a sign with their names on it, the light expands and they rise from their taxi. Spitz gives off a meow before the scene fades to black. In their story, the two clean their taxi, glad that the weather has turned out to be nice after all. Suddenly a young woman arrives, asking for a ride to a place calledTomorrow Hill. When they arrive, they are shocked to see that a giantspaceship has descended to the edge of Tomorrow Hill. The young lady transforms into an alien namedMitzi and departs using the spaceship, leaving her hat behind. Once they get over their shock, Dribble & Spitz realize that Mitzi did not pay the fare. DuringTiny Wario's epilogue cutscene, Spitz is seen holdingRed by the tail while Dribble watches nearby as Wario gets chased by someSplunks.

InWarioWare: Smooth Moves, Dribble & Spitz's set of microgames involve the forms The Remote Control, The Umbrella, The Dumbbell, The Janitor and The Mohawk. However, the second part of their boss microgame,Boot Camp, involves The Elephant. The songTomorrow Hill plays throughout the stage.

Dribble has his own blog entries at the official Japanese website of the game. His profile mentions his hobby is sewing and that he is famous for his driving, which is described as "thrilling like a roller-coaster ride." His boss, Spitz, is said to occasionally space out.

InWarioWare: D.I.Y. Showcase, the WiiWare counterpart forWarioWare: D.I.Y., Dribble & Spitz take part in the Diamond Rally Championship, where they try to overtake their opponents. After the boss stage is completed, an ad for Diamond Taxi will be shown and the taxi shown in said ad will fall apart if the player presses theA Button button.

InWarioWare: D.I.Y Showcase, Dribble & Spitz return to their original role and host a new set of Sci-Fi games again.

Game & Wario[edit]

Taxi title screen

InGame & Wario, Dribble & Spitz's minigame is calledTaxi. In the introductory cutscene, Dribble & Spitz travel onHighway 56 in their taxi while Dribble drives tiredly and Spitz sleeps. Soon after, Dribble spots a customer hailing for their taxi on the side of the road and wakes Spitz in the process. A UFO suddenly appears overhead and abducts the customer. Spitz then grabs a bazooka, opens the top of their taxi, and attempts to shoot the UFO with lasers. The UFO dodges all of Spitz's shots. He then tells Dribble to follow it and he cooperates, following the UFO over a hill leading to a farm.

Dribble is also in theBowling minigame, depicted on a pin like other characters in the game.

WarioWare Gold[edit]

InWarioWare Gold, they are once again recruited by Wario to make games for him after Wario runs out of money. This time the games are for theWario Bowl, Wario's gaming tournament. They host the third stage of the Mash League, which involves their fantasy microgames. In their stage, Dribble & Spitz drive their taxi acrossThe Farthest Edge of Space, just after their last passenger stiffed them. The Farthest Edge of Space is currently occupied by theSpace Gangs, who fire lasers everywhere. One of them nearly hits the taxt. Spitz tries to tell Dribble about "stayin' cool", but when a second laser beam hits the taxi and nearly knocks the duo out, Spitz declares war on the Space Gangs. He tells Dribble to bring out theoctoblazooka, and they dive into combat despite Dribble insisting they should stay cool. Their stage has them fight the UFOs, with every microgame being represented by Spitz firing the octoblazooka. Success brings down a UFO; failure lets the UFO dodge. Eventually, they chase away the remaining UFOs and make it back home, with Spitz standing by his philosophy of "stayin' cool", despite his rage earlier. This annoys Dribble.

Dribble & Spitz are later seen having a potluck with9-Volt,18-Volt,5-Volt,Orbulon,Mike,Fronk,Ashley, andRed atPeridot Campgrounds, forming thePotluck Gang. The Potluck Gang is the host of the second stage in the Ultra League. Dribble and Spitz bring ingredients for s'mores and chicken respectively. When Ashley reveals that she brought amandrake root for her ingredient, Spitz plays a prank on Red by crying like a mandrake, causing him to faint. They all play a card game together, which is the framing device for the Potluck Gang's stage. Dribble and Spitz play a card when one of their microgames are played, though the Touch Screen only displays a card representing Dribble. After the potluck, Dribble suggests they invite Wario for the next potluck and they all agree to have one tomorrow.

They are last seen asking Wario along with the rest of the characters for their share of the earnings from the Wario Bowl, with Dribble demanding where their "cut" is. After Wario drops the suitcase andYoung Cricket holds him down, the suitcase opens up and Spitz comments about how shiny the coins within are. The group splits the money between themselves, Wario, and theplayer.

Dribble hosts the Challenge modeCruise Controls, where the player drives the duo's taxi in a race against black cars.

The game depicts Dribble with an inconsistent number of fingers. In most cutscenes, he is depicted with only four fingers on each hand. However, his Mash League artwork, Potluck Gang stage sprites, and cast roll artwork depict him with five fingers on each hand.

Dribble is treated as the primary character of the duo in many cases acrossWarioWare Gold. He is the only one present on the radio in the Index for their microgames, the only one with anAlarm Clock, and the only one who speaks in text in Story mode's and Challenge mode's menus.

WarioWare: Get It Together![edit]

Dribble & Spitz in their taxi with aliens

Dribble & Spitz appear inWarioWare: Get It Together!. In the game's story mode, the duo appears in the opening cutscene, playing a board game. They, along with the rest of the WarioWare, Inc. employees, get sucked in the game world due toWario's actions.

Their stage is the Fantasy stage, which is available afterMona's That's Life stage is completed. In the pre-stage cutscene, Wario, Young Cricket, 18-Volt, and Mona take note of the corruption that thegame bugs have caused, and as Wario sarcastically dismisses the state of the game, Mona immediately reprimands him. They suddenly notice Dribble & Spitz, with the former stating that they've been looking for Wario and co. Dribble states that he had seen corruptions all over the game (with Mona commenting on the dilemma). Without hesitation, the duo prepare to exterminate the game bugs.

In their story, Dribble & Spitz host a tour titled the Outta This World Tour, where they take customers to see the stars as well as other sights in space. They descend on a planet and pick up four purple aliens, and then travel to a green planet. After their stage is cleared, the duo joins the gang, with Spitz commenting, "Ha HA! Now that's more like it!"

After beating Anything Goes, Dribble & Spitz go back to the real world alongside most of the other WarioWare Inc. employees and chase after Wario after it is revealed their predicament was caused by his poor programming, with Dribble reprimanding Wario on the recurrence of such an event. However, they soon remember other people were left behind in the game world, and immediately return to rescue them.

Unlike most playable characters, Dribble is controlled by Player 1 and Spitz is controlled by Player 2. With the exception of the Variety Pack and select Wario Cup challenges, the player always controls Dribble in single-player. As playable characters, Dribble & Spitz fly around in their taxis withLeft Stick. PressingA Button makes them fire a bullet from their bazookas; Dribble faces and shoots bullets to the right, and Spitz faces and shoots to the left. This ability allows them to clear microgames that feature objects easily targeted at a horizontal range (e.g.Is Anyone Home? andAnimal Crossing: New Leaf, the 2 microgames that consider them a good fit). Although there are no microgames that deem them a bad fit, the inability to fire projectiles vertically requires them to use their body to move objects (e.g.Piggy Pluck andThe Vampire Arose, two of 6 microgames that deem them a below-average fit). Dribble's fixed shooting direction may also toughen the player's ability to pass microgames with targets to his left, with major examples beingWobble Boxing andThere's a Monster Behind You!, which are especially difficult in single-player, requiring the player to find alternate ways to clear the games. Dribble & Spitz have 138 microgames that deem them an above-average fit, and 66 microgames considered an average fit.

If the player wins a microgame, Dribble flexes his right arm upward with a happy expression while Spitz gives the peace sign with a smile. Failure of a microgame causes Dribble to flex his right arm downward with an angry expression while Spitz scratches his bazooka.

WarioWare: Move It![edit]

Dribble & Spitz appear inWarioWare: Move It!, where they are invited along with the rest of the WarioWare Inc. crew toCaresaway Island. In the opening of their stage, the duo are shown relaxing aboard their taxi, which has been converted into a motorboat. Spitz wakes up Dribble upon realizing that they have inadvertently floated onto the starting line of the Caresaway Grand Prix. Despite their initial confusion, the duo enthusiastically join the race. Later, they are shown to be in the lead; however, a seagull landing on a directional sign causes it to flip, sending Dribble & Spitz, along with most of their competitors, in the wrong direction. They continue racing off into the sunset, unaware that theHigh-Octane Hippo won the Grand Prix.

Dribble & Spitz also appear alongside9-Volt,18-Volt,13-Amp,5-Volt,Young Cricket,Master Mantis,Kat & Ana, andJimmy T inPool-Party Panic. After Kat & Ana accidentally get a ball lodged inPoolopus' mouth, Dribble & Spitz join the rest of the crew in trying to remove it, only to be flung into the air before landing on a moving tour bus.

The duo also appear in the final stage of Story Mode alongside the rest of Wario's friends (besides Wario himself, who has been merged with Perspiration Peak Volcano). Dribble & Spitz are both seen expressing shock at theerupting volcano, before dancing with the others to calm the volcano down.

InWarioWare: Move It!, Dribble & Spitz's stage introduce Button prompts, which are used alongside most of the forms introduced in previous stages.

General information[edit]

Personality[edit]

Dribble and Spitz are outgoing and enjoy their job as taxi drivers. Dribble is shown to be slightly short-tempered while Spitz is almost always calm and easy-going, although Spitz has his limits, as shown when he uses theOctoblazooka to shoot down all the UFOs after he and Dribble are struck by a laser inWarioWare Gold.

Relationships[edit]

Each other[edit]

They are best friends, as they have been together for a long time. According to their respectivewebsiteprofiles, Dribble first met Spitz before becoming a cabbie and always has Spitz talk some sense into him whenever he loses his temper and skip work, even admitting that he doesn't know what to do without Spitz, while Spitz knows that Dribble still has a lot to learn, but also potential to learn a lot.

Wario[edit]

Since the beginning of theWarioWare series, both Dribble & Spitz have been two of Wario's earliest employees. According to their respective website profiles, Wario praises them for making a good team. Wario sees Dribble as a "speed demon" and states that he learned to drive fast from him, though he refuses to pay him for it and states that Dribble should pay him instead for the honor. Wario considers Spitz to be "pretty chill" and a professional taxi driver but also fears him when he loses his temper, and wants to figure out how to make his profits his own.

Notes[edit]

  • Even though Spitz's eyes are always squinting, he opens them fully inWarioWare: Twisted! inSpitz Hockey, when he wins and at the beginning of a microgame in his stage, and inWarioWare: Smooth Moves, if the player clicks the Dribble icon and waits for a moment, in which (in both cases) they are revealed to resemble real cat eyes. However, InGame & Wario, they are opened once more, but this time look like black dots. This is retconned inWarioWare Gold however, where his eyes are completely circular and wide.
  • In most games, Dribble appears to be a solo developer, with Spitz as a partner, but inGame & Wario, Spitz's description card reveals that he is actually Dribble's boss.
  • Spitz is the only character to not have a unique line for losing a microgame where they are a good fit; instead, he says "What a joke!", which may be uttered in an IQ-based or choice-based microgame.
