TheDolphin Dasher is abike in theMario Kart series. The bike is based on theDolphins fromSuper Mario World. Similar to theFlame Runner, its general shape resembles anaked bike, specifically aMoto Guzzi Griso. The character's emblem is shown only on the bike's belly. The tires on this bike feature a "wavy" design also found on theCheep Charger andSuper Blooper, two other vehicles based on aquaticSuper Mario species. The rims inside the tires have beach ball-like patterns.

Mario Kart Arcade GP DX andMario Kart Tour feature karts similar to the Dolphin Dasher, dubbed theTurbo Dolphin andDolphin Drifter respectively.

History[edit]

Mario Kart Wii[edit]

The Dolphin Dasher first appears inMario Kart Wii as an unlockable mediumhang-on typebike. It is unlocked by winning theMirrorStar Cup or by playing 3,750 races. Itskart counterpart is theSuper Blooper, which is slightly faster and lighter, making the Dolphin Dasher the only bike heavier than its kart counterpart. Its small counterpart is theMagikruiser.

The Dolphin Dasher has a great off-road stat, which is tied with that of thePhantom and theBit Bike. However, unlike theMagikruiser, it loses some more speed when going off-road. Compared to theZip Zip, the Dolphin Dasher has more speed and weight, but has less acceleration, handling, drift, off-road, and mini-turbo. It is the heaviest medium bike in the game, and shares the same speed and handling stats as theJet Bubble. The two vehicles also have the same mini-turbo stat.

The internal stats reveal that the Dolphin Dasher has the second best turning capability while drifting among the medium bikes, only behind that of theMach Bike. However, in the vehicle select menu, the Drift stat is based exclusively on the raw stat without applying the points bonus that is applied to all the other hang-on type bikes, resulting in this bike having the worst drift stat among both all medium bikes and all inside drifting bikes, even though in-game it has a relatively high turning capability while drifting.

The Dolphin Dasher also features the same weight as theClassic Dragster, and the same speed, acceleration, and handling as theStandard Kart L. It also has the best off-road of all the medium hang-on type bikes, as well as the second best off-road of all the medium bikes and all the hang-on type bikes.

If Daisy rides the Dolphin Dasher, its speed will surpass theShooting Star's default speed stat by two points, and its mini-turbo will tie with the Phantom's default mini-turbo stat. Also, if Peach rides the Dolphin Dasher, its drift will exceed theSpear's,Tiny Titan's, and Zip Zip's default drift stat by one point. If Mario or Luigi ride the Dolphin Dasher, its weight will surpass the Shooting Star's andSprinter's default weight stat by one point.

Mario Kart World[edit]

The Dolphin Dasher returns inMario Kart World. However, unlike itsMario Kart Wii appearance, it only hasMario's color scheme no matter which driver is using it, and is now anoutwards drifting bike due to the game's removal of inside drift. It is the only bike inWorld to return from a previous game. It now uses darker rims withDolphin Marine Sports branding.

In terms of stats, the Dolphin Dasher has high acceleration and good handling, but weak speed and weight. It shares its stats with theRally Bike,Hyper Pipe, andFin Twin.

This bike is randomly used by the CPU-controlledPianta,Dolphin,Mario (Sightseeing),Luigi (Gondolier),Peach (Vacation),Birdo (Vacation), and Peach (Sightseeing).

"If cute was a category, the Dolphin Dasher would be in the top spot. Instead, its Off-Road capabilities are really its best attribute. Just don't try to get too fancy with drifting—you might run into something or even roll 'er!"
