Deep Cheeps[1] (originally formatted asDeep-Cheeps)[2] are a special variety ofCheep Cheep that is first found inNew Super Mario Bros. While regular Cheep Cheeps swim straight forward, Deep Cheeps swim towardMario orLuigi. Deep Cheeps give up pursuing Mario or Luigi if they swim behind and past them. Years before Deep Cheeps appeared, green Cheep Cheeps have appeared sinceSuper Mario Bros. and their coloration may have inspired Deep Cheep's coloration.

Super Mario series[edit]
New Super Mario Bros.[edit]
InNew Super Mario Bros., Deep-Cheeps and their larger variants, theMega Deep-Cheeps, only appear inWorld 6-5. They swim in a wavy pattern, but if approached, they move up or down toward Mario or Luigi until he passes them.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]
InNew Super Mario Bros. Wii, Deep-Cheeps are slightly more common. One appears inWorld 1-4 along with a Mega Deep-Cheep. If Mario and co. keep staying in the area, another pair of green fish enemies appears. Deep-Cheeps can also be encountered in the second part ofWorld 8-4.
In this game, their lips have become pink, matching the current depiction of a Cheep Cheep's, rather than keeping the red-orange colored lips they and Cheep Cheeps previously had inNew Super Mario Bros. Their dorsal fins and tails have also become yellow, as opposed to white. They have an angry look on their face. There is a more relentless enemy similar to Deep-Cheep known asSpiny Cheep Cheep.
New Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]

New Super Luigi U /New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]
Though Deep Cheeps do not appear inNew Super Mario Bros. U (despite them receiving official artwork for that game), they still appear inNew Super Luigi U, behaving the same as in previous games. Their only appearance is inCheep Chomp Chase.

InSuper Mario Maker,Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, andSuper Mario Maker 2, green Cheep Cheeps use the design of Deep Cheeps in theNew Super Mario Bros. U game style (despite not appearing in the original game). Though sharing the design of Deep Cheeps, they do not chase Mario, swimming endlessly in a straight line like the green Cheep Cheeps in other gamestyles.
Mario Party 9[edit]
InMario Party 9, a Deep-Cheep makes a minor appearance, swimming aroundBlooper Beach. It jumps out of the water at various intervals and may even jump over the player's vehicle. It has no effect on the gameplay.
Minecraft[edit]
In the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack inMinecraft,cod are reskinned to look like Deep Cheeps.
Dr. Mario World[edit]
InDr. Mario World, Deep Cheeps appear in the background of World 18 once an area has been cleared.
Mario Kart Tour[edit]
TheGreen Cheep Charger fromMario Kart Tour resembles a Deep Cheep.
