Variants

Curlups are armadillo-esque enemies inMario & Luigi: Brothership. Their name refers to their ability to roll around. They are found onHeatfreeze Island, where some aresleeping. Curlups that are awake roll atMario andLuigi if they are near. Curlups have brown backs and yellow bellies, as well as short limbs, a red nose and yellow eyes. Some Curlups are infected withGlohm, becomingGlohm Curlups. A stronger, non-Glohmed Curlup, known as aCurlup R, appears onPetit Islet in a side quest.

Battle[edit]

If a sleeping Curlup is encountered, it will start the battle sleeping, unable to perform any action. If they are attacked in this state, even fromFirst Strikes, they will awaken and turn red with rage, boosting their POW by 30%.

Curlups have two attacks:

  • They can roll up and leap high into the air a few times, creating shockwaves with each impact. The Bros. mustjump over the shockwaves to avoid damage. The Curlup can jump to different locations during the attack, which changes the timing for jumping over the shockwaves.
  • Curlups can also roll directly at Mario or Luigi. The brothers must use theirhammers to counter. If the Curlup is countered, it will roll to the other Bro. Once the other brother defends, the attack will end. If the Curlup rolls into Mario or Luigi, the target will be launched off the screen and will not return for a few turns (unless the opposite Bro.fell in battle); if the opposite Bro. got knocked off-screen, he instead rejoins the fight rather than the target getting knocked away.
