Yoshi's New Island levels

Cruise the Clouds is the fifth level ofWorld 5 found inYoshi's New Island. It introducesBubble Dayzees andWobble Rocks as stage hazards while introducingGoonies that dropShy Guys. The level's theme and backgrounds progress from being on the ground, to higher in the sky, to space. The level makes use of jumping on flying enemies to reach collectibles. This level's playableYoshi is the Purple Yoshi.

Layout[edit]

The first area Purple Yoshi starts in is a sunset area that starts the level in a cloudy area with Goonies and Shy Guys; platforms here consist of mostly small rocks. After the firstSmiley Flower, Purple Yoshi encounters Goonies that drop off Shy Guys. Where four Goonies drop off Shy Guys, aWinged Cloud can be hit to collectstars. Bubble Dayzees can then be found on rocks; another Winged Cloud is found which gives the level's second Smiley Flower. After a large Wobble Rock with coins around, aWarp Pipe takes Purple Yoshi to the next area.

This area, now with a higher elevation in the background, starts with aCheckpoint Ring followed by a Bubble Dayzee and multiple small wobble rocks withFly Guys, some of which act as platforms for Purple Yoshi to jump on to reach collectibles. The pipe before the third area is near a Bubble Dayzee, who is on a bridge.

The last area takes place with an even higher elevation, in space, and another Checkpoint Ring. ASpring Ball propels Purple Yoshi up towards clouds that move left and right. There is a door on the upper left area which can be accessed if Purple Yoshi hits a hidden Winged Cloud near the horizontally moving cloud platforms: the door takes Purple Yoshi to aSuper Yoshi course and a door that leads back to the main area and coins that lead Purple Yoshi back to the staircase. Above the moving cloud platforms is a Winged Cloud that spawns a Spring Ball, which falls into a pit if there is no cloud platform below it.Goal Ring. More Bubble Dayzees andFlightless Goonies are encountered and a Winged Cloud spawns stars, though the area above with the level's fifth Smiley Flower has coins that lead back to the ground, ending with theGoal Ring.

  • Smiley Flower 4: In a room with a door. This room can be accessed when Purple Yoshi hits a hidden Winged Cloud to the left of the topmost cloud platform that horizontally moves left and right; it spawns a staircase that leads to the door. The Smiley Flower is located underneath a circular platform that Super Yoshi can run underneath.
