Crouching High Jump
- This article is about the move. For the badge that grants this move inSuper Mario Bros. Wonder, seeBadge (Super Mario Bros. Wonder) § Crouching High Jump. For the Badge Challenge courses in the same game, seePOOF! Badge Challenge Crouching High Jump I andBadge Challenge Crouching High Jump II.
- Not to be confused with theJump ChargeBadge fromPaper Mario or theCharge Jump technique fromMario Kart World.
TheCrouching High Jump, also known as thePower Squat Jump[1][2][3][4] (alternativelypower squat jump),[5]Power Jump,[6]Squat Jump,[7][8][9]Super Jump,[10][11][12] orcharge jump,[13] is ajump thatMario,Luigi,Princess Toadstool, andToad can perform inSuper Mario Bros. 2 and itsreissues inSuper Mario All-Stars andSuper Mario Advance. It is done by holding Down on to charge up and then jumping. Characters do not necessarily have to remainducking; they can keep the charge until they actually jump, though it resets if the player moves left/right before jumping. Unlike the normal jump move, this jump makes the characters jump higher and reach places they normally cannot. InSuper Mario Advance, the characters perform a backflip upon using the charge jump.
InSuper Mario Land, while there is no charge mechanic, crouching causes a noticeable boost to jump height and is necessary to reach certain bonus areas. InSuper Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, this mechanic is replaced with theSpin Jump fromSuper Mario World instead.
Although this move did not appear in early versions ofMario Bros., theMario Bros. remakes found in theSuper Mario Advance series andMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga let Mario and Luigi perform this move.
InSuper Mario 3D Land,Super Mario 3D World, and theSuper Mario 3D World game style inSuper Mario Maker 2, theBackward Somersault must be charged up first, in the same way as the charge jump. As of version 3.0.0 inSuper Mario Maker 2, the player is also able to perform the charge jump itself after obtaining theSMB2 Mushroom in theSuper Mario Bros. style, though its charge resets when the player stops crouching.
InSuper Mario Bros. Wonder, characters are able to perform the move by equipping the Crouching High Jumpbadge.
