Clawdaddies are foam-coveredcrabs and a recurring enemy in theYoshi franchise. Clawdaddies have the ability to enlarge one of their claws and attack with it; they also cannot be eaten and turned into anegg byYoshi. They appear to be inspired by thefiddler crab, which is known for having a claw larger than the other.
History[edit]
Yoshi series[edit]
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island /Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3[edit]
Clawdaddies first appear inSuper Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and return in theGame Boy Advance version. They appear in the jungles ofYoshi's Island, and are first encountered inPrince Froggy's Fort. They take threeeggs or aGround Pound to be defeated. Clawdaddies walk from one side to another on a platform, and rush towardsYoshi upon spotting him; once close enough, they enlarge one of their claws before pinching, spinning it around, or hammering it against the ground, which knocksBaby Mario off Yoshi on contact.
InYoshi's Island DS, they are replaced by a very similar enemy,Crabbles.
Yoshi's New Island[edit]
Clawdaddies reappear inYoshi's New Island and are found inUkiki Trouble in Clawdaddy Cove andKing Clawdaddy's Sewer Castle. When they see Yoshi, they turn bright red and angrily charge at him. Once they reach him or the end of their platform or whatever surface they are on, they will attack by rotating their claw briefly. In this game, the foam on a Clawdaddy's body can be removed by licking it or hitting it with an egg or a Ukiki, revealing a squarish body underneath that resembles that of aSidestepper. In this state, their movement pattern is similar, though they now slam their claw against the ground to attack, and can be defeated by a single stomp or egg. Ground Pounding defeats them in one hit, regardless of form. Their foamless form bears a resemblance to a crab depicted inone piece of artworkMedia:Smsaftergame.jpg fromSuper Mario Sunshine.
A giant Clawdaddy,King Clawdaddy, appears as the boss of World 3.
Yoshi's Woolly World /Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World[edit]
Clawdaddies reappear inYoshi's Woolly World andPoochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, where they mainly populateClawdaddy Beach. They are now stylized to resemble plaid purses with sewing clippers for claws. When they spot the Yoshi, they take a bigger pair of clippers from their interior to replace one of their claws, then rush towards him in an attempt to attack.
There are numerous different ways to defeat a Clawdaddy: jumping on it three times, jumping on it once after stunning it with ayarn ball, performing a singleGround Pound on it, or spitting sixwatermelon seeds at it. Upon defeat, Clawdaddies give out severalbeads which are automatically added to the counter.
If a Clawdaddy falls into the water inPoochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, only possible by removing spongy blocks from underneath one, then it is unable to move. If the player defeats the Clawdaddy the game does not stop drawing the Clawdaddy on the screen.
Yoshi's Crafted World[edit]
Clawdaddies reappear inYoshi's Crafted World exclusively inBombs Away on Pirate Island, where they act like they did inYoshi's New Island.
Tetris Attack[edit]
A Clawdaddy teams up withFroggy inTetris Attack.
