A Chomp Bro without its Chain Chomp in both versions.

TheChomp Bro is a large, muscular version ofHammer Bros. wielding aChain Chomp as a weapon. They are encountered inBowser's Castle inMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and itsremake. They do not appear in the overworld, and are only encountered withBoos andMagikoopas. They attack by throwing their Chain Chomps at eitherMario orLuigi. During a battle, if the Chomp Bro spins its Chain Chomp clockwise, it will be thrown at Mario; if counter-clockwise, it is targeting Luigi. The number of times they spin around determines how fast the attack will be. If Mario or Luigi jump on the Chain Chomp when it is thrown, it will fall off the screen, leaving the Chomp Bro defenseless. Sometimes, Chomp Bros. will run away crying from the battle when they are unaccompanied by a Chain Chomp. Other times, the Chain Chomp may return to them, restarting the process. Additionally, in the originalGame Boy Advance release of the game, Chomp Bros. are healed byFirebrand and take critical damage fromThunderhand.

Chomp Bros. are likely based onhammer throw athletes, due to their muscular appearance and how they throw their Chain Chomps, which resemble the balls used in the hammer throw; this in turn plays off them being based on Hammer Bros., albeit with a different sort of "hammer."

InMario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, they wear shoes and no longer wear a belt or have a bean sprout-shaped arm tattoo.
