Chip-Shot Challenge is a 4-Playerminigame inMario Party 3,Mario Party: The Top 100, andMario Party Superstars. In its first two appearances, its name is formatted asChip Shot Challenge.
Overview[edit]
The minigame opens with a scene ofLakitu placing the red flag in the hole inMario Party 3, though the flag falls in randomly in later versions.
Players try to launch the ball as close to the hole on an island as possible. The turn order is decided randomly, but in the Battle Royale mode, players take turns based on their current positions, from first to fourth place, while the Mini-Game mode does it by player order. If a chip-in occurs, that player wins automatically, though other players are still able to perform one in their following turn. Usually, whoever launches the ball the closest wins. If none of the characters chip in and two or more players tie for the closest distance to the hole, the minigame is a draw.[1] Any player who launches a ball off the island is disqualified, with Lakitu holding a "MISS" sign. If a player gets a chip-in, Lakitu is seen with a sign reading "NICE!"
Later versions included inMario Party: The Top 100 andMario Party Superstars are mostly the same, but the player can skip watching a computer player's turn by pressing
in the former game or
and/or
in the latter. Both versions choose a random player to go first, followed by the others in player order. If one gets a hole-in-one, fireworks are shown as "Hole in One" displays onscreen, not Lakitu like inMario Party 3. Every player's distance can be seen throughout, but there are no longer markers for where each one's ball has landed.
