These greenPiranha Plants have stems and leaves that are depicted as purple in game and green in artwork, and walk on the ground likePtooies. Chewies have high attack and magic attack and are usually accompanied byBeezos and other enemies. In battle, they use the fire attacksHot Shot andFire Saber, and can also putparty members to sleep withPollen Nap.

In the original game, outside of battle, Chewies share the same red color as ordinary Piranha Plants. The Bean Valley section of theNintendo Power guide mistakenly calls themSmilaxes, which is a separate enemy with the same overworld sprite.^[1] The remake uses the correct coloration in the overworld. A related enemy,Whuhoh, is a Chewy with a red stem and leaves that disguises itself as a treasure box.

InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, Chewies are mentioned briefly byViridi duringPalutena's Guidance dialogue for Piranha Plant.
