Bulbfish Island is a part ofConcordia inMario & Luigi: Brothership. It is the first island to be found drifting inBrrrning Sea, and the ninth one to be linked toShipshape Island. It is named for theBulbfish, a glowing species of fish raised on the island. A large cloud hovers above the island, so it is always dark, even during the daytime. Bulbfish Island is the only major location found in Brrrning Sea to not have any ice or lava elements.

History[edit]

WhenMario andLuigi arrive, they hear about a Bulbfish egg theft, with many of the citizens complaining to the island's chiefLeyden and accusing him of the theft. He vehemently denies it, and when the brothers speak to him, he tasks them with clearing his name and finding the real thief. They also find that many of the island's residents, distinguished by a dark red aura, are behaving abnormally and refusing to associate with others. Upon investigating, they find a lead that suggests thatLeyden's assistant may be responsible for the theft. A guard hired by him forbids entry to the underground area, but he agrees to let the Mario Bros. pass if they can answer three quiz questions. In the underground, they find a diary belonging to Leyden's assistant, in which he rants about his grievances with his boss, further implicating him. However, Leyden's assistant instead accuses an outsider couple,Chilliam andBurnadette, having them arrested.

Mario and Luigi convince the security guard to give them the key to the jail cells after finding his younger brother. To know of his whereabouts, the Bros. give away the diary to theSecret snatcher, who tells them that he is inside the island's restaurant. Mario and Luigi speak with the security guard's younger brother, who tells them that thief wore glasses, revealing the culprit to be Layden's assistant. When the Bros. are about to receive the key from the security guard, aZokkarang Trooper blasts him with a mysterious ray of light, causing him to become uncooperative, similar to the other abnormally-behaving citizens. The security guard runs away, but drops the key, allowing the Mario and Luigi to free Chilliam and Burnadette. The brothers encounterEcks in the underground, where he reveals that theZok Troops have been spreadingGlohm, revealing this to be the nature of the unusually-behaving people on the island. However, this has nothing to do with the Bulbfish egg theft. The Mario Bros. find Leyden's assistant, who flees from them until they corner him at the top of the island by thelighthouse. Caught with the evidence, he threatens to throw the Bulbfish eggs into the sea until he is stopped by Leyden himself. Leyden's assistant reveals that he is also his son, and he confesses to having greatly resented his father, plotting to replace him as chief. Leyden admits to having raised him poorly and apologizes for his poor parenting. Leyden's assistant is ready to be imprisoned for his crime, but the villagers do not want to punish him, instead tasking him with doing Leyden's work for him. With the case of the stolen eggs resolved, Mario and Luigi finish their business by linking Bulbfish Island to Shipshape.

During the credits,Buddy andArc are seen on Bulbfish Island withPatriarc.
