ABrick Block (orbrick block), sometimes simply known as abrick,[1][2]regular block,[3]Normal Block,[4] orBlock,[5] is a recurring type ofblock either textured or designed to resemble a brick wall. Brick Blocks can be broken only byjumping under them asSuper Mario or a higher tiered form, such asFire Mario orTanooki Mario, while Brick Blocks just bounce up slightly if hit bySmall Mario orMini Mario. Brick Blocks are worth tenpoints (50 inSuper Mario Bros. and its derivatives). Brick Blocks becomecoins and vice-versa while aP Switch is active, though Brick Blocks that hold an item or a power-up work identically to? Blocks.

Super Mario series[edit]
Super Mario Bros. /Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels[edit]
Bricks debut inSuper Mario Bros. and reappear inSuper Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, where they are used as containers and platforms. They are colored blue in underground areas and light gray incastle courses.World 8-3 of the originalSuper Mario Bros. as well asWorld 8-2,World 8-3, andWorld D-3 ofSuper Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels feature castle walls with the same brick styling as bricks, which can obscure the view of them. According to the game's manual, power-up-holding bricks[6] were one of several objects thatBowser had magically transformed theMushroom People into.[7]
In theSuper Mario All-Stars versions of both games, the player character continues his upward momentum slightly after punching through a brick, rather than rebounding back down.
Super Mario Bros. 3[edit]
Bricks are objects inSuper Mario Bros. 3. They now look shiny, share a color with? Blocks, and can alternatively be broken from either a tail whip or a kickedshell. Bricks havelarger versions inGiant Land, though they cannot be tail-whipped in the original orSuper Mario All-Stars versions. ThePile Driver Micro-Goomba enemies wear dull bricks (excluding theSuper Mario All-Stars version, where their blocks shine) and hop afterMario, attempting to hit him. ASwitch Block also turns coins into dull bricks briefly.
Super Mario Land[edit]
Brick Blocks reappear inSuper Mario Land, where they are titledblocks.[8] Unlike in previous games, a block with nothing in it will not bump before breaking. This means that if an enemy is on top of the broken block, it will fall through the newly created gap and onto Mario. However, blocks with items in them and blocks bumped asSmall Mario will still bump and defeat enemies.
Super Mario World[edit]

Brick Blocks wereoriginally going to appear inSuper Mario World, but were removed in favor of Rotating Blocks.
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins[edit]
Bricks retain their usual function inSuper Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, though are depicted with the same closed eyes asFire Flowers.
Super Mario Sunshine[edit]
Super Mario Sunshine features brick blocks (also referred to assand bricks[9]) filled with sand inside and sometimes contain1-Up Mushrooms.
Super Mario 64 DS[edit]
Theblocks fromSuper Mario 64 were redesigned to look like brick blocks inSuper Mario 64 DS but still retain their function. The game also adds a large black variation that onlyWario (or any player character using amushroom) can destroy.
New Super Mario Bros. series[edit]
Bricks can now be broken with aGround Pound inNew Super Mario Bros. and its sequelsNew Super Mario Bros. Wii,New Super Mario Bros. 2, andNew Super Mario Bros. U. Exclusively toNew Super Mario Bros., coins are transformed into dull bricks during the effects of a P Switch, like inSuper Mario Bros. 3, andWorld 7-

Super Mario Galaxy /Super Mario Galaxy 2[edit]
Brick Blocks return inSuper Mario Galaxy, itsNintendo Switchport, andSuper Mario Galaxy 2. They resemble their original design from having four layers of bricks but contain onlycoins.
Super Mario 3D Land[edit]
Brick Blocks return inSuper Mario 3D Land with the same function as the sidescrolling games. Some Brick Blocks have aTail Wheel, which ascend the platform they are on. The game adds the enemyFake Block, which disguises itself as a Brick Block but attacks close by. Bricks Blocks are among the segments ofBlokkabloks, and Small Mario can break them, unlike regular segments.
Super Mario 3D World /Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury[edit]
Brick Blocks return inSuper Mario 3D World andits port, functioning the same as before. Big Blocks also appear, and the game adds the similar asCrystal Blocks.
Super Mario Maker series[edit]
Brick Blocks are course elements inSuper Mario Maker,its port, andSuper Mario Maker 2. They are titledBlocks in the Course Maker but by their full title inYamamura's Dojo inSuper Mario Maker 2. Brick Blocks are usable in every style exceptSuper Mario World, which replaces them withRotating Block. Crystal Blocks also replace regular Brick Blocks in the forest and underground themes of theSuper Mario 3D World style inSuper Mario Maker 2. The Story Mode of the latter game also features a living Brick Block namedPartrick.
Super Mario Run[edit]
Brick Blocks reappear inSuper Mario Run working as they do in other 2D Super Mario titles. Sometimes, they contain acolor coin orBonus Medal inside. If aGreen Koopa Troopa or aRed Koopa Troopa is defeated by being hit while standing on a Brick Block, the shell is tossed forward while not spinning. Certain Brick Blocks inBoohind Lock and Key turn intoLong Jump Blocks when hit instead of breaking or releasing an item.Cutting-Edge Spire has a section where Brick Blocks have to be broken by the player to advance, a rarity in 2DSuper Mario games.
Brick Blocks can only be broken by characters that are two blocks tall. In versions ofSuper Mario Run prior to version 3.0.4,Peach,Toad,Toadette, and theYoshis did not have Small forms and therefore always break Brick Blocks at the cost of dying whenever they take damage. In versions since the Fall 2017 update, said characters andDaisy have Small forms to shrink into when being hit, now functioning identically to Mario and Luigi.
Brick Blocks arebuildings that can be purchased and placed in the Mushroom Kingdom in Kingdom Builder mode. They come in a number of variations with differing arrangements of Brick Blocks.Block A is a single Brick Block, taking up a 1x1 space.Block B is a pair of Brick Blocks placed side by side, taking up a 1x2 space.Block C is a pair of Brick Blocks with one on top of the other, taking up a 1x1 space.Block D is three Brick Blocks arranged in a "L" shape open to the right, taking up a 1x2 space.Block E is three Brick Blocks arranged in a "L" shape open to the left, taking up a 1x2 space.Block F is four Brick Blocks arranged in a square stacked upward, taking up a 1x2 space. Block E is available exclusively as aMy Nintendo reward for 100 Platinum Points each, while the rest can be obtained by normal means in the Shop or the Bonus Game of Remix 10.
Mega Blocks also appear, as two buildings. A Mega Block building with just one Mega Block, and a Mega Blocks building consisting two Mega Blocks with one placed on top of the other.
Super Mario Odyssey[edit]
Brick Blocks retain their role inSuper Mario Odyssey, retaining their appearance fromSuper Mario Galaxy, though theWooded Kingdom has unusually large Brick Blocks made of stone.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder[edit]
Brick Blocks return inSuper Mario Bros. Wonder, retaining their function from the side-scrolling games, though their design depicts them without a chamfer, unlike? Blocks andEmpty Blocks.

In "Super Koopa", Mario calls a brick holding aSuper Leaf a "Super Block".

Brick Blocks with theirSuper Mario Bros. 3 design are part of the environment ofDesert Hills inMario Kart DS and the course's reappearance inMario Kart Wii, forming part of the walls and others in a pyramid structure, referencingWorld 2-3 ofSuper Mario Bros. 3. Contemporary Brick Blocks also appear in the first room ofToad's Factory inMario Kart Wii, being transported by twoConveyor Belts as hydraulic presses convert them intoItem Boxes.
InMario Kart World, Brick Blocks appear alongside coin-holding? Blocks as part of the regular scenery in the game's world, especially throughoutroutes. In Free Roam, Brick Blocks that appear on the ground can be broken by ramming into them at high speed.
Mario Party series[edit]
Brick Blocks are in a few minigames of theMario Party series:Coin Block Bash ofMario Party, where player destroy Brick Blocks for coins; andGrowing Up inMario Party 9, where avine grows from a Brick Block as players hit it.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

In theSuper Smash Bros. games, Brick Blocks only appear inSuper Mario stages, such as theMushroom Kingdom ofSuper Smash Bros. (where they form a solid platform on the left side) and theMushroom Kingdom ofSuper Smash Bros. Brick Blocks inPaper Mario: The Origami King appear commonly and do not usually contain items.Overlook Tower's outdoor cafe contains multiple Brick Blocks, which can be destroyed byColored Pencils' missiles. TheTrial of Power's first challenge involves Mario needing to break many Brick Blocks within one minute, then two bigger ones, then one giant one.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story[edit]
InMario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, giant Brick Blocks appear on the overworld and can be punched by Bowser to collect the items inside.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[edit]
InMario & Luigi: Dream Team,Dreamy Mario can summon a Brick Block to obstruct his target's jump defense during one of his attacks, although the target can use his jump to break the block.
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam[edit]
Large Brick Blocks appear during thepapercraft battles inMario & Luigi: Paper Jam. They can be destroyed by ramming into them or throwing the papercraft onto them.
Super Princess Peach[edit]
InSuper Princess Peach, Brick Blocks have various appearances depending on theworld, and particularly resembleEgg Blocks inHoo's Wood and Rotating Blocks inGiddy Sky. They come in normal-sized and big versions, and give the player a coin when broken. If Princess Peach uses theGloom Vibe, she can quickly strike a cluster of these blocks all at once. Darker and sturdier variations also appear, which can only be broken by thePoundbrella move.
Mario & Sonic series[edit]
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games[edit]
Blocks are items in theDream Race event in theNintendo DS version ofMario & Sonic at the Olympic Games and drop in front of opponents when used, causing them to lose speed if touched, unless they are equipped with aShield. TheWii version features Brick Blocks as obstacles inDream Platform, costing the player speed and a point on contact, though either aRed Shell, anExplosion, or aBarrier can destroy them.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games[edit]
Brick Blocks are protective walls against snowballs inDream Snowball Fight as well as props in the Mario World routine ofDream Figure Skating in the Wii version ofMario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. Meanwhile, thehandheld version includes Brick Blocks as obstacles inSupersonic Downhill, in which case the player retires unless they use aBarrier.
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games[edit]
Brick Blocks are blockades within the Coin Street rink ofSnow Day Street Hockey inMario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, though they can become coins from activating a P Switch.
Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games[edit]
Brick Blocks are obstacles ofGolf Plus in theNintendo 3DS version ofMario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and become Empty Blocks upon being hit. They are also in the background ofArchery Plus.
Nintendo Monopoly[edit]
"Blocks," as they are called, are the Community Chest spaces and cards in 2010 version ofNintendo Monopoly, replacing the role ofCoin Blocks from the 2006 version.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker[edit]
Brick Blocks are objects inCaptain Toad: Treasure Tracker andits ports. Eitherturnips, interacting with them using the pointer / touch screen, or enemies likeFlaptors andBullet Bills can activate them.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle[edit]
InMario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Brick Blocks are used as full cover in various battlefields. They break if they are hit too many times, and often drop a few coins if they do. Some Brick Blocks have a cover block which causes a Super Effect when hit within them.
Dr. Mario World[edit]
Brick Blocks appear inDr. Mario World, where they are referred to asblocks. In order to break a block, acapsule match need to be made near it, or that a skill or item is used to eliminate it. Some of the blocks may contain something such asviruses. Objects hidden inside blocks are not active, such asCapsule Plus where it will not countdown until it is released. Some of theblocks may containcoins, where the coins that come from these type of blocks are pink with the image of a virus imprinted on it.
Dr. Wendy's andDr. Koopa Troopa's skills involves Brick Blocks. For Dr. Wendy, her stage mode skill breaks up to 10 blocks while her versus mode skill covers up to 10 viruses in the opponent's field in blocks. For Dr. Koopa Troopa, its stage mode skill breaks up to 4 blocks (3 prior to version 2.2.0), while its versus mode skill covers up to 5 viruses inside blocks. Although Dr. Koopa Troopa's skill involves less blocks compared to Dr. Wendy, it is compensated by a lower skill meter to allow for potentially more uses of the skill. Blocks may appear in some of the starting layouts in versus mode. IfDr. Baby Wario's skill targets a block that contain coins, it is able to collect every coin from those blocks.
WarioWare: Get It Together![edit]
Brick Blocks are background elements inWarioWare: Get It Together! They appear outside of9-Volt's House during the opening cutscene of9-Volt's level.
Mario Strikers: Battle League[edit]
