TheBowser Sphinx is a sentient monument inMario Party 7. Its body is modeled after theGreat Sphinx of Giza, while its head resemblesBowser's, wearing a nemes with pink-and-blue striped lappets and aChain Chomp ornament. It has atreasure chest and a large collection ofcoins at its feet. The Bowser Sphinx is located at the center left ofPyramid Park, and it features prominently on the icon of theboard.
When a character lands on theGreen Space in front of the Bowser Sphinx, the sphinx awakens and assumes they are attempting to steal its treasure. In retaliation, it curses the player, resulting in one of three random effects occurring, all of which apply to all players:
- All players' coins are added up, then distributed evenly (equivalent to a Bowser Revolution).
- AllBlue Spaces becomeRed Spaces, and vice versa, for two turns.
- All Chain Chomp rides cost half as many coins for two turns.
In the Solo Cruise, the Green Space in front of the Bowser Sphinx is replaced by a green arrow similar to that of anOrb hut, which does not count as aspace and causes players to visit the Bowser Sphinx every time they pass by. At the beginning of the board in this mode, aBandit steals aStar from the Bowser Sphinx at the beginning of the board, and the objective of the board is for one of the players to steal it in turn and return it to the Bowser Sphinx. While passing the Bowser Sphinx while holding the Star wins the board, passing it empty-handed enrages it and causes it to cast one of its curses.
The Bowser Sphinx shares its name with Bowser's alter ego inMystery Land inMario Party 2. Additionally, its nemes is strikingly similar toTutankoopa's.
