- “Beyond space! Beyond time! And beyond decency! We're in the blackest hole of all. Bowser's Warped Orbit! It's seriously sick and twisted! We're in Bowser territory now. And you'll play by HIS rules. So you'll start with 5 Stars... Then earn more the Bowser way: Stealing! Steamrolling! Savagery! You'll need two kinds of Candy... Bowser Candy and Bullet Candy! Chow down on these to steal Stars from each player you pass! Bowser Candy lets you smack 2 Dice Blocks, and you'll steal 2 Stars from each victim! Bullet Candy lets you blast farther! You'll get 3 Dice Blocks, but steal only 1 Star per victim. Study where foes are before chowing! Which will steal you more Stars? A short rampage? Or a long snipe?”
- —MC Ballyhoo,Mario Party 8
Bowser's Warped Orbit is an unlockable board inMario Party 8. Unlike previousBowser-themed boards, this board does not have alava theme. Instead, is is a space station located above a star. Additionally,Magikoopa andToadies appear in shops and board events, rather than underlings likeGoombas andKoopa Kids. The board's layout is linear except for short branching paths that players are randomly sorted into by the directional buttons.
The objective is to stealStars from other players, similarly toSnowflake Lake fromMario Party 6 andPyramid Park fromMario Party 7, but instead ofChain Chomps to steal Stars, players must use board-exclusiveCandy to steal Stars from their opponents;Bowser Candy lets the player roll twoDice Blocks and steal two Stars from any opponent they pass, whileBullet Candy lets the player roll three Dice Blocks but only steal one Star from each passed opponent. Landing on aDK Space causesDonkey Kong to appear on aSteel Barrel satellite, and give the player a free Star, adding it to the circulation. Landing on aBowser Space causes Bowser to come down from his observation tower to steal a Star from the player; if the player has no Stars, Bowser will give them tenCoins instead. This usually removes the Star DK added to the circulation, except if Bowser provided coins.
In Battle Royale, each player starts out with five Stars. In Tag Battle, each team starts out with ten. The handicap can add up to three additional Stars per player or team. One of theGreen Space causes Bowser to come down and chase the player all around the board in a complete loop. Anyone that is in their path will also get chased down, essentially moving all the players involved to the same space. The Green Space next to Magikoopa makes him use his magic to shuffle everyone's Candies around, like inMario Party 5. The Green Spaces next to the Warp Tube[1] causes players to travel through the tube and reach to the other side of the board, always collecting twenty Coins along the way. The other Green Spaces make Bowser reverse the direction of the flow of the board, similarly toBacktrack, a duel board inMario Party 3. TheLucky Space takes the player toShy Guy's Space Buffet.
In Duel Battle andStar Battle Arena, the winning condition is to reduce the opponent's star count to 0. Both players start with three Stars each. Green Spaces now exclusively flip the board; the ones next to the Warp Tube are replaced with arrow spaces, with the Warp Tube not giving any coins as a result. Donkey Kong now grants a piece of Bowser Candy or Bullet Candy instead of a Star, although Bowser still steals a Star from the player; they will still lose if their Star count is reduced to 0 this way. Completing the board in the Star Battle Arena will initiate the Last minigameSuperstar Showdown; defeating Bowser will unlock the board in the Party Tent as well as Hammer Bro or Blooper, depending on who the opponent was; they are always random unless the player is using one of those two characters, in which case the other one will forcibly be the opponent.
Shy Guy's Space Buffet[edit]
Shy Guy's Space Buffet is the Lucky Space area of Bowser's Warped Orbit.Captain Shy Guy flies the player here upon them landing on the Lucky Space. This area is quite small, mostly consisting of a few Blue Spaces, each with three coins. Unlike on all other boards with a Lucky Space, Shy Guy's Space Buffet does not lead to a free Star; instead, players get to collect three free pieces of Candy by passing? Candies, all of which are either Bullet Candy or Bowser Candy. Once the player makes it to the end, Captain Shy Guy takes them back to the Lucky Space.
