TheBoss Goomba,[1] also known as theMega Goomba,[2][3] is the boss ofWorld 4 inNew Super Mario Bros. Boss Goomba is fought inWorld 4-
Castle. Just before the battle starts, Boss Goomba is first shown to be a regularGoomba, and it walks onscreen before transforming into the Boss Goomba. While growing, Boss Goomba makes a sound similar to touching aMega Mushroom.
To defeat the Boss Goomba,Mario (orLuigi) can either activate a? Switch, causing twogreen platforms to appear that elevate when Mario stands on them, orWall Jump off one of the side walls when the Goomba comes close. Either way, Mario has toground-pound the Boss Goomba afterwards to damage it. Alternatively,Mega Mario,Shell Mario'sshell dash technique, orFire Mario'sfireballs can also damage Boss Goomba. If the Boss Goomba approaches Mario on the far left or right side, it does not hurt him due to its mushroom-sized hitbox. It takes three ground-pounds to defeat the Boss Goomba, or nine if Mario is in hisMini form. When Boss Goomba is defeated, thekey toWorld 5 is released.
In thevery first footage ofNew Super Mario Bros., the Boss Goomba was a normal Goomba until it came into contact with a mushroom. A similar concept was later used for theMega Koopa inSuper Paper Mario.
InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, the Boss Goomba, known as the Mega Goomba, is mentioned in theGiant Goomba'strophy description, which notes the distinction between the two.
