EffectTemporarily allows the player usingBoost Mode to enter Super Boost Mode, where they can instantly defeat enemies and break blocks by tapping them
Variant ofSuper Star

TheBoost Star is anitem inNew Super Mario Bros. U. It is a Star that appears only if a player is usingBoost Mode, and the item can be collected only by that player. The Boost Star is purple on theGamePad. On the television screen, the Boost Star has only a slight blue outline and thus is almost invisible.

To make a Boost Star appear, the players using the non-GamePad controllers have to step on tenBoost Blocks while theblocks still have their playing card symbols. Doing so fills the Star Meter, located at the top of the screen, and when it is full, the meter is expended while a Boost Star appears. If the Boost Mode player taps on the Boost Star, they enter Super Boost Mode for a short time. During Super Boost Mode, the player can instantly defeat enemies (includingKoopa Troopas,Thwomps, andKing Bills, the last of which can be defeated only through Super Boost Mode) and break blocks by tapping on them with the stylus or the finger, like with theSuper Star.
