ABonus Coin[1] is a special and rarecoin that appears inSuper Mario World. It is a normal yellow coin with a slightly rounder shape and a smiley face on it. Bonus Coins are dropped byYoshi Clouds.

Super Mario World[edit]
InSuper Mario World andits reissue, a Yoshi Cloud drops ten Bonus Coins, one at a time, after which it flies away. IfMario orLuigi manages to collect all ten coins before they faze through the ground after bouncing once on it, the Yoshi Cloud will reward him with a1-Up Mushroom.
If Mario or Luigi abandonsYoshi and flies one screen above the Yoshi Cloud, aglitch will cause the Bonus Coins to appear as if they were doubled.[2]
In anearly version ofSuper Mario World, the Bonus Coins were originally designed with a star on each. This appearance would later be used for the coins inSuper Mario 64.
Super Mario (Kodansha manga)[edit]
InSuper Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World 2, Yoshi shows off his ability to lay different eggs based on the berries he eats. When he creates a Yoshi Cloud, Mario and Luigi start collecting the Bonus Coin, obtaining a 1-Up Mushroom.
Super Mario-kun[edit]
In chapter 8 ofvolume 2 inSuper Mario-kun, while fighting aJumping Pumpkin Plant, Mario falls on Yoshi, making him pop out an egg that releases a Yoshi Cloud. Mario jumps on it and eats the Bonus Coins, becoming the big-headedNikoniko Mario, scaring off the enemy.
