Big Deep Cheeps,[1] originallyMega Deep-Cheeps,[2] are largeDeep Cheeps that appear in all of theNew Super Mario Bros. games exceptNew Super Mario Bros. U. In every one of these games, they are merely bigger than their parent species, but act the same nevertheless: a Big Deep Cheep swims straightly forward, untilMario and his friends approach its vertical axis. If so happens, the it tries to rapidly swim towards the heroes in an attempt to hurt them. However, if the they manage to swim over the Big Deep Cheep, it stops its pursuit and continue its aimless underwater rambling. Mega Deep-Cheeps inNew Super Mario Bros. Wii had their size reduced so they appear to be just slightly bigger than common Deep-Cheeps, though this was reverted inNew Super Mario Bros. 2.
InSuper Mario Maker,Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, andSuper Mario Maker 2, enlarged greenCheep Cheeps take on the appearance of Big Deep Cheeps in theNew Super Mario Bros. U game style. Though sharing the design of Big Deep Cheeps, these green Cheep Cheeps do not chase the player, but instead swim endlessly in a straight line like in the other game styles. In these games, green Cheep Cheeps are the same size as Big Deep Cheeps are inNew Super Mario Bros. Wii.
Big Deep Cheeps can be defeated with the power conferred by aFire Flower or aSuper Star in every appearance. InNew Super Mario Bros. Wii andNew Super Luigi U only, players can freeze Big Deep Cheeps with the ice balls given by theIce Flower or thePenguin Suit. Likewise, inNew Super Mario Bros. 2 only, players can acquireRaccoon forms and defeat Big Deep Cheeps with tail swings.
