History[edit]
Yoshi's Story[edit]
A small variety of Bees[1] appear as obstacles in certain levels, such asJungle Hut, inYoshi's Story. They swarm aroundbeehives and will become agitated if theBaby Yoshis approach it too quickly. If the Yoshis attempt to pass the hive while they are agitated, the bees will form a hand that will block them from passing. Throwing anegg at the hive while the hand is formed will result in the bees hitting them. In order to pass the beehive, the Yoshi must slowly walk past it.
Another variety of bee, theBumblebee, appears inCloud Cruising. They will fly across the screen and will hurt the Baby Yoshis on contact. They can be defeated by a simplestomp or by being eaten, though they do not give anyhearts or replenish theSmile Meter when eaten.
Mario Party series[edit]
Bees in theMario Party series appear on boards and inminigames alike. InMario Party 2 andMario Party Superstars, beehives appear in the minigameHoneycomb Havoc, where if a player winds up with one, they are attacked by bees and eliminated from the game. Bees inMario Party 7 appear inBig Dripper, where players must duck down to avoid the swarm while collecting their dripping honey. Additionally, players pilot bee-like aircraft in the minigameBuzzstormer. Bees inMario Party DS appear as part of anEvent Space inDK's Stone Statue, where they emerge from their hive withcoins that the player can collect; additionally, Bees in the minigameHedge Honcho sting players if touched with a stylus, so the player has to wait for them to buzz off. Bees inMario Party 10 resemblehoneybees and are the main obstacles of the minigameBeeline Shrine.
Bees also appear inSuper Mario Party Jamboree on the boardMega Wiggler's Tree Party.
Super Mario Sunshine[edit]
Bees[2] inSuper Mario Sunshine are part of variousBeehives inBianco Hills,Gelato Beach, andPianta Village, and ifMario gets too close to aBeehive or knocks one down, the Bees swarm him, causing damage if he gets stung. A Bee can release aCoin if eaten by Yoshi, though the last Bee of a Beehive always releases either aBlue Coin or a1-Up Mushroom. If Mario talks to an NPC while bees are chasing him, he will be pushed in random directions mid-conversation and will not take damage.
Mario & Luigi series[edit]
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story /Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey[edit]
Bees inMario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story andits remake are encountered as enemies alongside another type of enemy,Beehoss, which can summon Bees from its honeycomb during battle. Bees in theBowser Jr.'s Journey mode are used as the Beehoss's projectiles. In the remake, they use their design fromMario & Luigi: Dream Team.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team[edit]
Bees inMario & Luigi: Dream Team are encountered alongside Beehosses once more, and if any bee is counterattacked and defeated on the Beehoss' turn, the remaining bees will return to perform an unavoidable attack on eitherMario orLuigi, depending on who counterattacked them. Like the Beehosses, their design is different, with no distinct head or antennae and a yellow and brown color scheme on their abdomen, and their eyes are connected.
Mario & Luigi: Brothership[edit]
In the opening ofMario & Luigi: Brothership,Luigi is chased by a swarm of bees in a forest not far fromPeach's Castle, resulting in him nearly falling off a cliff beforeMario saves him, which causes their hands to glow and create a portal that teleports them away toConcordia.
