Banandiumtone is abanana peel-shapedFractone in theDK Island & Emerald Rush DLC forDonkey Kong Bananza. They are found on a floating islet inDK Island.Donkey Kong cannot physically touch Banandiumtone as they move their body when he does so. Donkey Kong can interact with Banandiumtone to solve an eight-step puzzle, which unlocks theQuick-Change Tie when it is solved. Initially, they only useUnderground World symbols when talking, but later use words followed by periods starting with the puzzle's eighth step.

Puzzle[edit]

This section is astub. Please considerexpanding it to include any missing information.Specifics: Can the entire puzzle be completed prematurely by swimming around the DK Bongos-shaped island before solving the first 7 steps of the puzzle?

The first seven steps of the puzzle all consist in interacting with Banandiumtone to change one or more symbols, until all displayed symbols turn yellow. Each interaction advances one or more symbols through the following order:

One of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbols

The step's number corresponds to the number of symbols shown at once. When a step is solved, Banandiumtone spins and releasesgold. The steps are the following:

  1. The lone symbol must be set toOne of Banandiumtone's symbols. It advances by punching.
  2. All symbols must be set toOne of Banandiumtone's symbols. A left punch advances the left symbol, and a right punch the right one. Other interactions do not advance either. DK normally alternates between the two punches, but usingJoy-Con motion controls allows manually picking which punch to use.
  3. All symbols must be set toOne of Banandiumtone's symbols. Only one symbol is "active" at a time. A punch will advance the active symbol. AHand Slap changes which symbol is active.
  4. All symbols must be set toOne of Banandiumtone's symbols. Punching advances one symbol. Which symbol depends on where DK is standing relative to Banandiumtone: west for the first symbol, south for the second symbol, east for the third symbol, and north for the fourth symbol.
  5. All symbols must be set toOne of Banandiumtone's symbols. Punching advances three symbols, based on the position of the currently-highlightedBananza in the selection list: the symbol in the same position, plus those on either side (wrapping around). The player must methodically switch between Bananzas in order to get the symbols all aligned; actually transforming is not necessary.
  6. All symbols must be set toOne of Banandiumtone's symbols. Any hit advances all six symbols by default. Completing a Bonus Stage will "lock" a corresponding symbol, so it no longer advances. If a locked symbol must be changed, the player must use theEelevator to reset the bonus stages.
    • Symbol 1: Smashing for Gold (on top of the island)
    • Symbol 2: Quaking for Gold (on the West Islet)
    • Symbol 3: Blasting for Gold (on a floating islet)
    • Symbol 4: Bombing for Gold (above the waterfall)
    • Symbol 5: Bouncing for Gold (inside theGangplank Galleon's wreck)
    • Symbol 6: Surfing for Gold (underDK's Tree House)
  7. The symbols must be set toOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbolsOne of Banandiumtone's symbols ("BANANZA"). The player must "type" this sequence in order, which is represented by each action inserting a symbol on the right side and shifting all others one place to the left. Each correct letter is represented by an action related to the controller button used to input it.
    • One of Banandiumtone's symbols (the "Z") is typed with a grab (ZR Button).
    • One of Banandiumtone's symbols (the "A") is typed with either aSpin Jump or a downward punch, whichever is assigned toA Button.
    • One of Banandiumtone's symbols (the "B") is typed with either a downward punch or a Spin Jump, whichever is assigned toB Button.
    • One of Banandiumtone's symbols (the "N") is typed with a roll (ZL Button, "Z" as a sideways "N").
    • One of Banandiumtone's symbols is typed with a Hand Slap.
    • One of Banandiumtone's symbols is typed with an upward punch.
    • One of Banandiumtone's symbols is typed with a horizontal punch.
  8. There are no symbols. Banandiumtone says three random words. A punch creates a new set of random words. The player must keep punching until they know enough of the words to figure out what to do. The complete list of words comes to "Weave. Around. Two. Connected. Rocks. In. A. Figure. Eight!", though the player could get the idea without seeing all of them. The resulting solution is to swim in a figure eight around the outside of theDK Bongos-shaped island; moving in a figure eight on top of the bongos does not solve the puzzle. This is a reference toBaffle's clue inDonkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! that provides the location of theBanana Bird inKaos Kore: "To open the gate, at the two stones make an eight."

When the last step is completed, the player is automatically teleported to Banandiumtone and unlocks the Quick-Change Tie.

Notes[edit]

  • The possible existence of a banana-shaped Fractone is foreshadowed byPauline in the base game. WhenDonkey Kong falls asleep for the first time in the Mechaneck Isle Getaway (in theCanyon Layer), Pauline says: "Hey, DK... Are you awake? You notice how Fractones try to imitate all kinds of shapes? Some of them look like...giraffes...I think? I wonder if there are any banana-shaped Fractones? Oh... Oh no! If there are, I better make sure DK doesn't eat them. Uh...good night, DK."
