Balls on chains,[1] also referred to ascogs,[2] are a type ofplatform found exclusively in thethird level of theMario Zone ofSuper Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, in which they appear in a lighter color and a darker color. The light-colored balls on chains are stationary platforms, but the dark-colored variant moves along the length of the chain for a finite amount of time whenMariojumps on it, eventually flashing and disappearing. These balls on chains have the tendency to move in the path of enemies, such asBullet Bills andTatenoko.
