History[edit]
Mario Party 3[edit]
Back Spaces first appear inMario Party 3. They are on every board exceptBlowhard. If a player lands on a Back Space, they roll anotherDice Block, except they move backward however many spaces they have rolled. Back Spaces work differently inBacktrack by reversing which direction the player moves.
Mario Party 9[edit]
Back Spaces work the same way inMario Party 9 as they do in the previous game, though with a few changes to accommodate differences in gameplay. If a Captain lands on another Back Space the same turn, they are still allowed another turn, albeit in reverse. In areas like the last stretch ofToad Road, if the captain lands on a Back Space near the end of a fork, the vehicle always follows the path that the previous player had selected.[citation needed]
Mario Party 10[edit]
Back Spaces appear only in Mario Party mode inMario Party 10. They can transform intoGreen Spaces,[1][dead link] but are the same inMario Party 9 otherwise.
