Armies[1] are small armadillo enemies which first appear inDonkey Kong Country.
History[edit]
Donkey Kong Country /Donkey Kong Land[edit]
Armies are enemies inDonkey Kong Country andDonkey Kong Land. They behave identically between both games. Armies attack by rolling into a ball and careening toward theKongs.Donkey Kong can defeat an Army by jumping on it once, regardless if the enemy is inside its shell or not.Diddy Kong must jump on an Army twice to defeat it, as when he jumps on a curled up Army, Diddy forces it to its normal position. While an Army is not curled up, Diddy can jump on it another time to defeat it. InDonkey Kong Country only, Army's defeat sound is a higher-pitched version of that of Donkey Kong's, though not in the remakes.
Club Nintendo[edit]
One purple-colored Army is an enemy inClub Nintendo comic, "Donkey Kong Country." It has the ability to speak, like the other enemies. Army is the first enemy that attacksDonkey Kong and Diddy Kong, the latter defeating it with astomp.
Donkey Kong Country novel[edit]
An individual Army appears as an antagonist in theDonkey Kong Country novel. While theKongs are exploring the abandoned mines, Army andSlippa ambush the group.Donkey Kong throws abarrel at Army and the force of the impact knocks him down the tunnel.
Donkey Kong Bananza[edit]
InDonkey Kong Bananza, Armies appear in thePlanet Core, behaving identically toRolluskoids, by rolling towards Donkey Kong at a high speed while covered in an armadillo-shaped shell of terrain. This marks the first game appearance of Armies since theGame Boy Advance version ofDonkey Kong Country, released 22 years prior, as well as their first 3D appearance. The Armadillofossils that are found in theRadiance Layer are fossilized Armies. In this game, they have been slightly redesigned to have nostrils, making their heads somewhat resemble those ofKritters.
In theDK Island & Emerald Rush DLC, a statue of an Army can be collected and placed on the deck ofGangplank Galleon.
Unused appearances[edit]
Donkey Kong 64 hasunused armadillo enemies, presumably Armies, which are depicted without ears and with perpetually snarling mouths full of teeth. Although Armies do not appear, the first boss,Army Dillo, is an Army.
An Army appears near the end of the trailer inDonkey Kong Racing.
