Ancient Dragons[1] are an extinctdragon species that appears inSuper Mario Bros. Wonder. In their living form, they resembleChinese dragons.
Ancient Dragon fossils can be found in most ofDeep Magma Bog'slevels as either flatSemisolid Platforms or rotating circular platforms like thewheel lifts ofYoshi's Story. The fossilized dragons can be temporarily brought back to life duringWonder Effects inDragon Boneyard,Deep Magma Bog Special Solar Roller, andThe Final Battle! Bowser's Rage Stage. Living Ancient Dragons travel through the air and throughlava on set paths like thedragons fromYoshi's Story, though they have a wider range of motion and may loop on themselves unlike the latter. If the playerground pounds on the dragon's head, they will spit outcoins inbubbles.[2]
In Dragon Boneyard, an Ancient Dragon serves as a platform that the player must ride to locate aWonder Seed. Three flying Ancient Dragons appear in Deep Magma Bog Special Solar Roller and act as platforms forSpike-Ball Mario to roll on. A single Ancient Dragon appears in The Final Battle! Bowser's Rage Stage to transport the player over a gap. Adark-obscured Ancient Dragon that helps the player touch the names floating by also appears in the end credits.
