Five Coins^[1] are a large type ofcoin, mostly found in theMario & Luigi series. They are typically embossed with the number 5 to denote that they are worth five coins, though some interpretations lack this appellation.

History[edit]

Mario & Luigi series[edit]

Five Coins are concealed withinblocks in most of theMario & Luigi series. InMario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Five Coins can occasionally be found scattered around outside blocks.

Super Princess Peach[edit]

InSuper Princess Peach, large coins that are worth five regular ones appear inlevels alongside other types of coins, but they are notably less common. Upon buying aCourage Soda, every enemyPrincess Peach whacks withPerry gives out such a coin, with the number of coins dropped increasing by 2.5 for every two enemies when whacked in rapid succession.

Wario Land: Shake It![edit]

Coins worth five regular coins appear inWario Land: Shake It!, where they are referred to assilver coins, being designed as a small, silver variety of coins. Onemission inWavy Waters tasksWario to collect 10 silver coins in a row. There is also a bigger variety that is worth fifty regular coins, under the name oflarge silver coins; one mission inGurgle Gulch does not allow Wario to take these coins.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem![edit]

Five Coins, referred to aslarge coins,^[2] appear inMario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!, where they are worth 500 points each. This is because in this series, players collect coins to receive points, rather than collecting coins and gaining points for doing so. Since a regular coin is worth 100 points, a large coin is still worth five times as much as a normal coin. Other games of theMario vs. Donkey Kong series have Large Coins be worthten times the point value of a regular coin.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[edit]

Five Coins are also encountered inPaper Mario: Sticker Star, where they are sometimes dropped by enemies upon defeated. In the sequence that follows completing a course by collecting aComet Piece, Five Coins can be among the coins that fall.

Monopoly:Super Mario Celebration![edit]

Five Coins appear inMonopoly:Super Mario Celebration! as a currency. They can be used to pay for items or fees, counting as five normal coins.

Jenga:Super Mario Edition[edit]

InJenga:Super Mario Edition, Five Coins can be used in place of regular coins to physically represent the number of coins that a player has earned; however, this choice is purely cosmetic, and has no effect on gameplay.

Princess Peach: Showtime![edit]

Five Coins also appear inPrincess Peach: Showtime!, being medium-sized coins with twoSparkle Gems engraved on them. They are obtained whenPeach poses in some spotlights or as a reward for performing well in challenges like baking cookies and figure skating.
