A3-Up Heart[1] is a heart-shaped item that first appears inSuper Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins. As the name implies, it grants the player threeextra lives. Originally, it was depicted as a1-Up Heart with a "3" written on it, and it was found only inminigames. It reappears inWario Land: Super Mario Land 3, where it is depicted as a blinking heart and shows up in hard-to-reach places and secret rooms. It remains immobile and does not disappear until it is collected.
Other items that award three extra lives have appeared in other games of theSuper Mario franchise, usually in the form of the3-Up Moon.
