- “Although the actual road is closed to the public for security reasons, Downing Street's quiet residential neighborhood conceals the important decisions made at Number 10, the official home of England's Prime Minister. Built in the 1600's by Sir George Downing, it was not until King George II gave it to England's first Prime Minster in 1732 that it became the executive residence. Number 11 and 12 Downing Street, all beautiful Georgian style homes, are also the homes and offices of high-ranking government leaders.”
