I have no doubt: adding an external fan to my Nintendo Switch 2 was the best decision of my life

Since using an external cooling system, I notice that my Nintendo Switch 2 suffers less and works better.

I have no doubt: adding an external fan to my Nintendo Switch 2 was the best decision of my life

After several months of tinkering with the Nintendo Switch 2 and trying all kinds of accessories, there are three in particular that have become indispensable in my day-to-day life.

I'd like to talk about them little by little, so I'll start with the one that I would probably recommend 100% of the time: an external fan. That's right:the accessory or complement with which I can no longer understand my Nintendo Switch 2 is an external fan.

As many of you will know, most handheld consoles or handheld decks have the same problems:temperature management and low battery life. Fortunately, there are ways to combat these problems quite efficiently.

In the case of temperature, the only way to do this is through an additional cooling system. Personally, this was especially worrying for me in summer, since it is hotter and the console suffers more.

Luckily, after trying several options, I found the ideal one:the JSAUX Cooling Fans for Switch 2, although there are many brands. As its name suggests, it is a fan specially designed for Nintendo's console.

Playing in handheld mode is a delight, as the effect is very noticeable. I've been testing it in quite long gaming sessions and in none of them did the console get hot.It reduces the temperature by 5 to 10 degrees easily.

Unfortunately, it has one problem:it cannot be used in docked mode in a minimally comfortable way. The model already available is gripped from below, so the charging port is blocked and it cannot be fitted to the dock.

When I was testing it, I managed to half-hook it from the back, making some effort andremoving the dock cover, but it never quite fit. I did it, but it's not as effective, so in dock mode it loses its usefulness.

However, there is another way to do it, albeit more expensive. In addition to the official one, there are third-party docks that remove the back of the dock to free up the console and give it more space.

There are two options here:either you make do with what you have or you spend a little more and wait. The brand itself has designed a ModCase (and I know more or less how it works, because I have one for Steam Deck) that will bring another type of fan.

This fits the ModCase, something like an outer protective case, because it has a rail system. By hooking up in this way, the bottom of the console is not occupied, so it can be connected through the charging port without any problem.

The other system (and yes, I have tried it)is to use a drill, make a hole in the bottom of the fan and make a hole for the charging cable to pass through without any problems.

It's a very sloppy solution, really, but it's also quite effective. In any case, this is only for use in docked mode. Personally, I find it quite necessary, but that's because I use the console a lot in desktop mode and that's where it gets hottest.

If this is the case for you, you might want to wait, as with that ModCase type fan (I've already had the chance to try it although it hasn't been released yet) and an alternative dock, the result is much better, although somewhat more expensive because you need more parts.

And if you're wondering, it works pretty well. Just like in handheld mode,my console barely got warm when I used it in desktop mode, so I was able to reduce the temperature quite a bit.

That said, I have used these examples because they are the ones I have and the ones that have given me the best results, but there are actually a lot of options.

There are even stands that include their own integrated cooling system, so they are simpler and more efficient to use. However, as I have not tried many of these, I cannot tell you how they work.

In the end, in any case, the conclusion is the same:the accessory that I consider indispensable for my Nintendo Switch 2 is my external fan. In fact, I find it so useful that I even think that Nintendo itself should consider releasing its own model. It would be really useful.
