Nexomon: Extinction is one of the best Pokemon-style games I've tried in a long time.

There's life beyond Pokemon; this monster-catching Nintendo Switch game is a real gem and very few people know about it

Since time immemorial,Pokemon has been the king of monster-catching. The Game Freak, Nintendo and TPCi saga has been giving us some of the best experiences in the genre for years, but there is a world beyond them.

A good example of this isNexomon: Extinction, one of the best monster-catching games I have ever played in my life. With 77% positive reviews on Steam, it has been doing its thing for years on almost every console and platform on the market, including mobile.

Personally, where I enjoyed it the most was on Nintendo Switch, and that's why it's the edition I recommend. The Pokemon-type feels, the sense of portability, the nostalgia of playing a monster-catching game with 2D aesthetics on a Nintendo console...

What is Nexomon: Extinction?

There are many reasons why I prefer it on Switch, but it's equally interesting on any other console. That said, what is Nexomon: Extinction?

Broadly speaking, it is the second part (the third is in production and looks incredible) of a monster-catching saga that is very reminiscent of Pokemon and Digimon, but with a much more acidic sense of humor.

The first part, Nexomon, is not bad either, but I don't recommend it as much as Nexomon: Extinction because it is directly worse; the localization into Spanish - not available on all platforms - and the gameplay are inferior, so I don't recommend it as much.

Although there are some inside jokes about the first game, you can play Extinction perfectly well without having completed the previous one. I did and I enjoyed it very much.

Why do I recommend it?

That said, the reason why Nexomon: Extinction is so interesting is because it is one of the few monster-catching games that is inspired by Pokemon andmanages to go beyond homage with a roster of creatures with a lot of personality.

In addition, it departs from the typical plot of goodness and friendship through a story where ethical and moral dilemmas are the order of the day. Nexomon are more than just creatures with which we can fight against other trainers, and that is something that its creators do not omit.

It touches onthe dark side of creature fighting while executing a plot full of absurd jokes and fourth wall breaks

Accompanied bydifferent exploration skills and a good combat system, it is a very rewarding game from start to finish. In any case, the main reason why I recommend this one in particular is that it is essentially fun
