Our Mission

The Chicago District delivers engineering solutions through flood and coastal storm risk management, navigation, aquatic ecosystem restoration, regulatory, emergency management, recreation and interagency support services.

Service Area: Chicago metropolitan area, upper Illinois River watershed, Lake Michigan watershed in Wisconsin, and the upper Wabash River watershed in Indiana – approximately 31,500 square miles across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

As the deputy district engineer and the chief of the planning, programs, and project management division, Mr. Steve Fischer assists the district commander in water resources development in the Chicago metropolitan area and Northwest Indiana, an area of about 5,000 square miles with a population of more than nine million.
