Prince William was met by crowds of fans as he arrived inMerseyside earlier today .

The Duke of Cambridge's first stop wasAintree Hospital where he met with patients in the new Urgent Care and Trauma Centre.

Heartwarming pictures taken by our photographer Jason Roberts show how much The Duke enjoyed chatting with patients and staff and took time to stop and greet the lines of people who had waited for hours to see him.

While he was there he met cancer patient Pagan Tordengrav, 55, and told her it's been quite a week with George starting school.

Pagan asked him how Kate and the kids are and Prince William said: "She's very well, thanks. George started school, so it's all, it's been an interesting week."

Pagan told The Duke how little Princess Charlotte was the spit of Kate, which he replied: "She is going to be trouble when she gets older."

He also let slip his secret love for band Linkin Park after Pagan said she was a huge rock music fan.

The Duke then met Edna Dagnall, 75, and Teresa Jones, 87, from Kirkby in the hospital's frailty unit.

His visit concluded with the unveiling of a plaque to formally opening Aintree Hospital's multi-million pound trauma centre.

More well wishers greeted him as he left the building, with Katie Daley even getting a royal hug, and he decided he simply could not leave until he had spoken with the Air Ambulance, not surprising given that he served as a pilot with the East Anglian Air Ambulance service until July this year.

He then went straight on to the former Walton library, which has been transformed into a mental health community hub called the Life Rooms.

The Merseycare-run facility off Rice Lane opened last year and offers support to improve people’s mental health and wellbeing and the prince was able to joined a confidence building class where one of the service users explained what she gained from the class.

Prince William said: "Helping others makes me feel confident. Mental health must be normalised and the stigma must be smashed."

He was also given a tour of the garden area where he met some of the Life Rooms' assistance dogs and he also spoke with the Stroke Association.

As he left he was given a Dancing Cool Cat by a member of the public for when the new baby arrives.

From Liverpool it was over to Wirral, where he was again met by cheers from the crowds and local school children outside Guinea Gap Baths in Wallasey.

A little boy had come with an avocado to give to The Duke as he said his mum, like Kate, also suffered from morning sickness and it helped ease her nausea.

His first stop in Wallasey was to look inside the British Sub Aqua Club opposite Guinea Gap Baths.

The visit reflects his role as a patron of the British Sub-Aqua Club, the English Schools Swimming Association and Swim England.

Finally it was into the swimming baths to hear about the work of Swim England and chat to some young swimmers and members of the British Sub Aqua Club.

He also popped by to see a water polo session before his last photo opportunity outside and then he was off!

Till next time!
