Keith Pepper’s Post
📣 I wanted to send a quick update on how things are going as well as share some exciting news. First, some numbers.📈 Revenue grew this year by 16% over 2021, and we came within 5% of hitting pre-pandemic marks. Digital advertising grew 142% over last year and now represents more than 7.5% of our business. Print advertising was up a more modest 11%, but up nonetheless, bucking newspaper industry trends. Some other news.💥 To start 2023, we are embracingRough Draft Atlanta as our corporate brand. 📰 We will continue to use Atlanta Intown and the Brookhaven, Buckhead, Dunwoody, and Sandy Springs Reporter newspapers in print, but Rough Draft Atlanta will be the digital home and umbrella brand for us. 🔮 Our monthly publication for active seniors (f/k/a Atlanta Senior Life) will now be known as Silver Streak Atlanta.Embracing Rough Draft gives us the ability to continue to build in new geographic and vertical markets in and around metro Atlanta, and I think it reflects a forward-looking brand that has proven to engage digital audiences. Plus, it's going to look sharp on our new swag! 💻 In 2022, we migrated to a digital-first newsroom, even as we continued to produce best-in-class hyperlocal print newspapers. 🚀 Through this transition, the morning Rough Draft newsletter has become our daily touchpoint with our audience and a flexible way to give advertisers engaging products that stand out in the marketplace for creativity and effectiveness. Our newsletter subscribers grew by 6x in 2022 as we introduced vertical spinoffs including Side Dish, Sketchbook, and Silver Streak. 📓Collin Kelley, who has been at the helm of Atlanta Intown for more than two decades, will now be the editor of all our titles.Sammie Purcell has been promoted to Associate Editor and will focus her work on our newsletters as well as the entertainment industry and feature writing. 🤝🏽 Industry partnerships continued to be an important part of our strategy in 2022, and we joined aVillage Media marketing cohort viaGoogle News Initiative.WABE,Georgia Public Broadcasting, and theAtlanta Journal-Constitution remain amazing local partners.🤯 It's not all that rosy. Our printing costs were up a mind-blowing 42% in 2022. Part of this was because we made improvements to the look and feel of the Reporter Newspapers, but most of that increase came from macroeconomic challenges.💫 Looking ahead to 2023My goals for '23 remain much the same as this year. We will continue to build a company that's "meaningful, not massive" as we give readers reliable local news and provide our marketing partners with the best advertising options in the market. Look for us to add coverage of different communities and topics, introduce in-person events, grow our membership program, and much more! 🍾 Thanks to our readers and advertisers for helping make 2022 a huge success. Here's to a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year for everybody!#Atlanta#localnews
