About us
We are creating Typst to lift typesetting into the 21st century with a fast, easy to learn, collaborative platform that natively runs in your browser. We want to enable our users to focus on their content, instead of their typesetting tool. At the same time, Typst is highly versatile, covering everything from notes or letters to books or research papers.

Last week, the Typst team was wrapping up the preparations for the booth at#START Summit 2025 in St. Gallen and walking on air. Now, we’re energized by the connections and insights we gained! We had the pleasure of meeting passionate individuals shaping the future across various fields and hearing: 🔹 Business leaders discussing how better documentation accelerates workflows,🔹 Researchers seeking smarter tools to communicate complex ideas, 🔹 Students offering fresh perspectives on the importance of simplicity and accessibility.A big thank you to everyone who visited our booth — whether to share a challenge, a vision, or just a coffee! We left the summit with new connections and valuable lessons on refining our mission: making documentation effortless, collaborative, and enjoyable. Let’s keep the conversation going; feel free to drop us a message or tag someone who should join the Typst journey! 🌟https://lnkd.in/dq-y7ERi

For the past few weeks, I have been working on a proof-of-concept (POC) macOS app that generates reports based on user-input data collected through SwiftUI forms and stored in JSON format. While I would not classify myself as a developer, it has been a fantastic opportunity to explore Apple's new [@]Observable macro, a way of handling reactive data. And double you OH double you W🤩W ... I can feel the cognitive load reduced - thank you Apple! Thankfully, with my small scale project I no longer have to worry about [@]StateObject and [@]ObservableObject. But here's what really excites me about this project -Typst! At first, I considered using AsciiDoc to generate my reports and yes, I was inspired by the Jamf Compliance Editor. But then it hit me ... wait ... Typst is a tiny, blazingly fast binary that compiles beautiful documents. That realization sparked even more excitement to continue building my first "real" macOS application. Even with over 20 years experience of typesetting with LaTeX, I have quickly embraced Typst. This says a lot because I loved LaTeX! I TeXed everything - even my wedding invitations. But ... Typst just feels so natural to program in - and the documentation is awesome! All that said - I have lots to learn - so here is to 20 years to typesetting with Typst. Almost went off on a tangent there. But seriously, I could not believe how easy it was to create a Typst document template that is populated with JSON data - out of the box! No third party packages - absolutely smooth! Was it really as simple as a json("decode_this_file.json")?This project is going to need a fair number of custom report sections that will be populated using JSON data. To make the workflow of creating those Typst files even more dynamic, I have built some "tooling" using Elisp and Yasnippet magic in Emacs (Doom). Sorry Xcode, while you do support Vim modal editing (which I am thankful for), I just feel much more at home working in Emacs for editing non-swift files. So here is a little behind the scenes action of how I am creating a Typst file that can pull data from the appropriate JSON file.

Typst is not only a markup-based typesetting system but a journey that rewards the team with valuable community members who become friends.Alberto Corbi is one such individual who learned about Typst, contributed on GitHub, and took every chance to introduce the ease of technical writing to his colleagues and students. He even presented at the Spanish National Physics Students Conference (held byNUSGREM) and the Biannual Physics Conference (held byGrupo de Estudiantes - Real Sociedad Española de Física). We thank Alberto and many other community members who hold Typst dear!
Meet us at#START Summit in St. Gallen, Switzerland on March 20 and 21 🤝!Martin Ernst Haug andMustafa Demir will be at our booth on the show floor.
