🙌 💖 Bravo againLaw.com for having our COO & Co-FounderAlon Shwartz sharing DYNAMITE insights on this AMAZING panel session last week at#Legalweek! What FANTASTIC company he was with onstage alongsideRebecca Goodman-Stephens (CEO,Moses Singer),Jaime Drozd (Managing Partner,Davis Wright Tremaine LLP),Luca A. Citton (President,Boughton Law Corporation) &Patrick Fuller (Chief Strategist,ALM)!!Law.com: Shwartz emphasized expectation changes around tech agility. "Companies out there, they know what technology exists," he said. "They're actually using those technologies themselves. So their own customers are expecting them to be nimble and efficient, to lower prices and be faster. When they're coming to#lawfirms, they're saying, 'Why aren't you using those technologies?' Because everyone uses ChatGPT. Everyone knows what#AI can do."#LegalTech#Innovation#ClientExpectations#WinningStrategies
As the#Legalweek25 session "Adapting to Client Demands: How Law Firms Meet Rising Client Expectations" began,Moses Singer CEORebecca Goodman-Stephens reflected on its title. "In my view, it's more about how we anticipate those expectations and having a more proactive approach to it."If you're trying to keep up," she continued, "you're already very, very late."ALM'sPatrick Fuller moderated a panel that also includedLuca A. Citton ofBoughton Law Corporation,Jaime Drozd ofDavis Wright Tremaine LLP andAlon Shwartz ofTrellis Law.Shwartz emphasized expectation changes around tech agility. "Companies out there, they know what technology exists," he said. "They're actually using those technologies themselves. So their own customers are expecting them to be nimble and efficient, to lower prices and be faster. When they're coming to law firms, they're saying, 'Why aren't you using those technologies?' Because everyone uses ChatGPT. Everyone knows what AI can do."Collaboration with clients is a key factor.Drozd said her firm is looking at client relationships as partnerships rather than just providing a legal service for them. "It's different for each client, where their pain points are, what makes them tick, how in the weeds they want to get into the relationship. It's really about this honest and transparent communication and being able to be nimble enough to tailor that per client.""In these discussions with clients, what's really important is to understand their business and to be able to put ourselves in other people's shoes," Goodman-Stephens emphasized.Fuller asked about aligning firm culture with compensation, which inspired Citton to muse about the importance of soft skills when taking on new lawyers, especially now that tech is poised to take over much of the busywork of firms."Historically," he said, "we would've looked at the highest gold medalists at every school. We could use them to grind hours and create that great research memo. But the way we've been turning our minds now is, knowing that the tech tools are there to replicate that, what skill set are we looking for? And I think it's that soft skillset that's a lot harder to find. We've been focusing more on looking at that candidate that walks in the room, command a room, hold a conversation."Drozd agreed, saying that in the past associates were a little infantilized when it came to their abilities. "These are people who can actually do things a lot more complicated than we've been giving them credit for, and the technology is going to force that more."Thus, talent strategy is integral as well. Citton underlined the importance of mentoring that also allowed for reverse mentorship, so that development can start right away. "We can't wait seven years for them to be at a level where they develop themselves," he said.🎥 In the video, Goodman-Stephens speaks about aligning culture and compensation structures to encourage lawyers to deeply engage with clients.
