Do you know which companies are reading your project’s documentation? The number of downloads alone only tells part of the story. Open source adoption happens across multiple touchpoints. Documentation views, package usage, and direct engagement with your project, to name a few.Get started tracking company adoption by adding a Scarf Pixel to your project’s documentation, and see which companies are reading them and where they are in the adoption funnel.Learn how to add it to your docs with our step-by-step playbook:https://lnkd.in/dXhvhPY3#ScarfPixel#playbook#opensource
When projects track engagement, it’s often limited to vanity metrics like GitHub stars and download counts. But these types of metrics don’t tell you who is engaging or how adoption is evolving over time.We use Scarf to track real engagement, seeing which companies interact with our content, what resonates, and how adoption happens. Then, we turn that data into targeted marketing strategies that drive actual growth. We put together a guide on how we do it, so you can apply it to your own project.Read all about it in our marketing guide:https://lnkd.in/d_mDxyDH#opensourcemarketing#analyticsforopensource#opensourcebusiness

11.4B now -- exponential growth territory is here as more and more open source traffic flows throughScarf.
Our 2024 open source usage report is dropping soon! Ahead of that, a remarkable figure to share:Scarf has officially exceeded *10 billion* OSS usage events collected across all projects on the platform. This comprises documentation views, artifact downloads, and other telemetry events sent to us directly from OSS code. From those 10B records, exactly *0* pieces of PII are retained, protecting end-user privacy -- even from ourselves! Before Scarf, those 10 billion events would be completely opaque to the people building each of the several thousand software packages we are tracking. I was once an OSS maintainer, struggling without information like this; my package registries kept this data locked away and inaccessible. Today, this milestone marks the significant progress we are making in the mission of open source sustainability. By equipping developers with privacy-conscious insights on the usage of their software, we are one of the few companies making tangible strides towards a more sustainable open source ecosystem, and better more reliable software for the world. Stay tuned for an in-depth analysis on the trends we saw in 2024!
