  • ❄️ DRIVE SAFELY NY! - Lake effect snow is impacting travel in parts of New York today and will continue into Saturday morning. These photos from this morning are just a snapshot of what our crews have been clearing as they work around the clock, including through the Thanksgiving holiday, to keep roads safe.👀Watch for snowplows - give them plenty of space, and never attempt to pass a working plow. Before you head out, check your local forecast and be ready for rapidly changing conditions.#DontCrowdThePlow

  • Snowy roads do not mean crews are not working. It can take up to two hours for a plow to complete a full route, and when snow is falling fast, roads will not stay bare.Drive for the conditions.👉 Slow down and give yourself extra time.👉 Turning and stopping on snow are nothing like dry pavement.👉 Leave plenty of space between your vehicle and others, especially our plows.👉 Safest place to be? BEHIND a plow.We are out there. Please help us keep everyone safe.#WinterSafety

  • 🍂🦃Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at NYSDOT.Today, we are especially grateful to every employee who keeps New York’s roads safe.As families and friends travel to celebrate, remember to slow down, stay alert, and give crews and plows plenty of room to work. Their dedication continues through the holiday, including ongoing snow and ice operations in areas experiencing heavy lake effect weather. To all the men and women who keep New York moving, thank you. Wishing everyone a safe and joyful Thanksgiving.#ThankfulForThem#ThanksgivingTravel#DontCrowdThePlow

  • WINTER WEATHER ALERT - The first significant lake effect event of the season is rolling in today through Saturday, and it lines up with the busiest travel week of the year. South of Buffalo could see 12 to 18 inches of snow. Syracuse may get eight to 12 inches. Areas north of Syracuse could see up to two feet. Snow starts tonight and is expected to hit its peak Thursday into Friday. If you are traveling for the holiday, plan ahead. Leave extra time. Check conditions before you go. Avoid driving during the heaviest bands. Blowing and drifting snow will make visibility drop fast. NYSDOT crews are ready with more than 3,500 operators and supervisors statewide. To boost support in Western New York, we are sending 35 additional staff, including 26 plow operators, plus seven plow trucks. If you must travel, slow down, give plows plenty of room, and stay alert. Your safety is our priority. More Here:https://bit.ly/3XnJw82#LakeEffectSnow#ThanksgivingTravel

  • Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and we are feeling especially#ThankfulForThem and all NYSDOT crews keeping NY roads safe this holiday season! The Mohawk Valley crew featured here headed out this morning to support the Buffalo area ahead of the holiday winter forecast. They will spend Thanksgiving on the job to keep roads safe for the traveling public. They are just one example of the commitment happening across New York. No matter where the snow falls, NYSDOT crews from every region stand ready to support one another. That is what makes us#OneDOT. If you must travel, please give them space to work and#DontCrowdThePlow. Today and every day, we are grateful for all who keep New York moving safely.

  • A bridge strike this morning along State Route 9A in Westchester County is a reminder that every trip matters, not just during the holiday rush either. NYSDOT crews and bridge inspectors responded and confirmed the bridge is safe for travel. Law enforcement is investigating the cause. Oversized vehicle drivers must know their height before they roll. One wrong move could shut down a roadway, damage infrastructure, and put people at risk. Plan ahead, check your route, and protect the roads we all rely on. Safe travels today and every day, New York.#CheckYourHeightKnowItsRight

  • Highway worker Gawbull here, clocked in and ready to talk turkey about Thanksgiving travel. All lane closures for road and bridge construction are paused to ease holiday travel through Monday, December 1, but you may still come across emergency repairs and construction. If you see a work zone ahead, please slow down, stay alert, and move over when you can.❄️Some parts of New York are also gearing up for snow during the holiday, so take it slow, increase your following distance, and never crowd a plow. Let’s look out for one another - Safe travels, full plates, and zero close calls. Gawbull out. 🦃🚧❄️
