The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) is an independent federal agency created in 1965. It is one of the largest funders of humanities programs in the United States.Because democracy demands wisdom, NEH serves and strengthens our republic by promoting excellence in the humanities and conveying the lessons of history to all Americans. The Endowment accomplishes this mission by awarding grants for top-rated proposals examined by panels of independent, external reviewers.

A new grant program from NEH’s Office of Data and Evaluation will support data-grounded research on the state, impact, and value of the humanities in the United States. Two levels of funding (up to $75,000 and $150,000) will support either one- or two-year projects that should employ at least one empirical study design. Applications for the Fellowships for Advanced Social Science Research on Japan program are open! This program is a joint activity of the Japan-United States Friendship Commission (JUSFC) and#NEHgov. The goals of the program are to promote Japan studies in the United States, to encourage U.S.-Japanese scholarly exchange, and to foster the next generation of Japan scholars in the United States.
