We’re excited to share that we’re expanding the power of Edmunds Service Drive with Certification in the Reynolds Certified Interface (RCI) program. The Reynolds and Reynolds Company is one of the most widely used Dealership Management Systems in the industry, allowing for secure and reliable data transfer from Reynolds DMS to Edmunds Service Drive.Service lanes represent one of the most underutilized acquisition opportunities at dealerships. In a 2025 survey we conducted among dealers, 73% said they convert service customers into vehicle sales, highlighting the service lane as a key acquisition touchpoint for dealers. The opportunity is already there; the challenge is making it consistent with existing dealership operations.Edmunds Service Drive helps dealers capture those moments more consistently by supporting service-to-sales engagement directly within existing workflows, without adding manual steps for dealership staff.Reliable system integration is what allows this approach to work at scale. Edmunds Service Drive is built to support that, helping dealership teams focus on customers and acquisition, not technology.About ReynoldsReynolds and Reynolds is a leading provider of automobile dealership software, services, and forms to help dealerships deliver better business results and transform the customer experience. The company is headquartered in Dayton, Ohio, with major U.S. operations in Houston and College Station, Texas, Tampa, Florida, and Celina, Ohio, as well as operations in Canada, the UK, and Europe (reyrey.com).

Meeting at theBloombergNEF SF Summit last week, it’s clear the future is still very much electric⚡. How we get there, though, will require more use of fog lights than expected earlier in the decade 🌫️. There are many encouraging signs of EV growth and innovation, from developments in battery manufacturing to charging and autonomous technology to international consumer demand. But the EV picture in the U.S. is a bit less in focus. American shopper interest remains fickle, and the end of the tax credit is already proving to create more headwind toward adoption goals. Of course, all that is impacting how automakers are planning for (or backtracking on) new EV products hitting the market.During my panel withDan Bowerson,Ryan Decker, andStephanie Searle moderated byAleksandra O'Donovan, we considered what the future of EV innovation looks like in the U.S. relative to the global race to electrification. On that front, tech advancements are still pushing forward even if the path is more jagged. Where PHEVs haven’t been the force the industry had hoped, there are encouraging signs that other electric drivetrain options like EREVs may more smoothly carry the torch to an electric future. We also talked more acutely about what American car buyers are looking for in an EV, and what’s still holding them back. On that front, we all agreed affordability and consumer education remains a major challenge. What we can still say for certain is that a future dominated by EVs is coming. The performance and conveniences afforded by electric tech are just too great to turn our backs on. The realization of that future, however, may require a few more trips through the fog…and the smog.

Edmunds data shows negative equity just hit multiple records.📊In Q4 2025, 29.3% of trade-ins toward new-vehicle purchases were underwater — the highest share in more than four years. At the same time, the average amount owed on those underwater trade-ins climbed to a record $7,214. We’re also seeing negative equity deepen, with a record 27% of underwater trade-ins carrying $10,000 or more.Together, the data shows that being upside down on a car loan is not only more common — it’s becoming harder to climb out of once buyers fall in.🔍 What’s driving the trend is less about sudden changes in behavior and more about how the market has shifted around familiar buying patterns. Many of today’s underwater loans originated during the pandemic-era supply crunch, when inventory was scarce and incentives were limited. Buyers often paid closer to or above MSRP, with fewer lower-priced options available. At the same time, leasing options were constrained, pushing some consumers who might have preferred to lease into purchases instead. As those buyers returned to the market on the same three-year timelines they were accustomed to, many found themselves in a far less favorable position than expected, with loan balances that hadn’t come down nearly as fast as vehicle values. As prices have normalized and depreciation has returned to more typical patterns, those higher starting balances are now colliding with today’s higher borrowing costs. The result is a growing disconnect between how long vehicles are being kept and how quickly loans are being paid down.📉 That mismatch is showing up in financing decisions. In Q4, 40.7% of new-vehicle purchases involving negative equity were financed with 84-month loans, highlighting how longer terms are increasingly being used to manage higher balances — often extending the negative equity cycle rather than breaking it.
