Bgee, a gene expression database
Research Services
Bgee is a database at SIB and UNIL to retrieve and compare gene expression patterns in multiple animal species.
About us
Bgee is a database at SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics and University of Lausanne to retrieve and compare gene expression patterns in multiple animal species, produced from multiple data types (RNA-Seq, Affymetrix, in situ hybridization, and EST data) and from multiple data sets (including GTEx data).SIMPLY NORMALBgee is based exclusively on curated "normal", healthy, expression data (e.g., no gene knock-out, no treatment, no disease), to provide a comparable reference of normal gene expression.COMPARABLE BETWEEN SPECIESBgee produces calls of presence/absence of expression, and of differential over-/under-expression, integrated along with information of gene orthology, and of homology between organs. This allows comparisons of expression patterns between species.*To see the original sources of images used in the Bgee LinkedIn page, please visit https://bgee.org and check the bottom of this page. 🎉 Congratulations toBgee, a gene expression database and the two complementary SwissOrthology knowledgebases, OMA and OrthoDB, for being selected asELIXIR Core Data Resources! ⭐ The three SIB Resources represent half the new CDRs in the latest evaluation round.⭐ Eight SIB Resources in total are now ELIXIR CDRs.⭐ Switzerland is the second-highest provider of all ELIXIR CDRs. Bgee is developed by the SIB Group led byMarc Robinson-Rechavi andFrederic Bastian at theUniversity of Lausanne - UNIL.OMA is developed by the SIB Group led byChristophe Dessimoz andNatasha Glover at theUniversity of Lausanne - UNIL.OrthoDB is developed by the SIB Group led by Evgeny Zdobnov andEvgenia Kriventseva at theUniversity of Geneva. The prestigious recognition reflects the expertise of the SIB Groups behind these resources and the quality of SIB’s research infrastructure. The recognition also underscores Switzerland’s leading position as a trusted provider of biological knowledge for research and innovation. Congratulations to Xenbase for 25 years of froggy biocuration!
Celebrating 25 Years of Xenbase!Xenbase is the world’s largest database of genomic and developmental biology data for the African clawed frog (Xenopus laevis) and its tadpoles—powerful model organisms that help researchers uncover the developmental origins of health and disease. For 25 years, Xenbase has supported breakthroughs in genetics, embryology, and regenerative medicine.
