The Town of Leesburg operates under the Council-Manager form of government. The Town Council is the legislative body of Leesburg and is empowered by the Town Charter to make Town policy. The Council is composed of a Mayor and six Council Members elected at large on a non-partisan basis.

Council Meetings

The Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers on the second floor of the Municipal Government Center, 25 West Market Street. The Council meets in work session at 7:00 p.m. on Mondays preceding regular Tuesday meetings. Meetings are conducted according to the Council's adoptedRules of Procedure andEthics, Conduct and Decorum Policy .

The public is welcome to attend the meetings. Council meetings can be seen live on Leesburg's Government Access Channel, Comcast Channel 67 or Channel 1074 and Verizon Channel 2135, or bywebcast.  Webcasts are archived on this website and may be viewed on demand.

Participation by public-spirited citizens on Town boards and commissions is vital to the success of the Town government.  Individuals interested in applying for a vacancy on one of our boards, commissions or committees should submit a letter of interest and resume to theClerk of Council.


Council Elections

Town elections are held every two years, in November of even-numbered years.  The next Town Council elections will be on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The Mayor is elected for a two-year term. The remaining six Town Council members are elected for four-year staggered terms. During each election cycle, the Mayor and three Council members are elected.  All Town Council members are elected at large.
