THE I PROMISE
INSTITUTE
In 2015, LeBron announced that all of his students would have the opportunity to earn four-year college scholarships to The University of Akron. But he doesn't just want them to get to college, he wants them to graduate from college. In order to help facilitate a smooth and successful transition, the I PROMISE Institute was created on the University's campus as an around-the-clock resource for all attending I PROMISE School students. But the programming won't simply start when they arrive on campus in 2021. It begins now as the Foundation proactively prepares its students for life and comfort on a college campus.
As part of the Foundation’s partnership with The University of Akron, the school’s LeBron James Family Foundation College of Education provides hands-on learning opportunities and on-site mentorship at the I PROMISE School through an innovative mentorship course that sees UA students engaging directly with their IPS mentees. The LJFF College of Education also extends in-school experiences to all I PROMISE students throughout Akron Public Schools.
