Billy Crystal Won’t Host Academy Awards: The comedian’s publicist confirmed that Crystal is bowing out after four consecutive years of the duties. Rumors have circulated in Hollywood that Crystal would not repeat as host of the March 21 event. Oscar show producer Gil Cates said he does not have a replacement for Crystal. In a statement, Crystal said: “I’m going to take a break from my hosting duties. I always felt honored to host the show and did my best to carry on the tradition of Bob Hope and Johnny Carson.” Hope hosted the show 10 years on his own and co-hosted four other years. Carson hosted five years.
