Weekend Box Office : ‘Player,’ ‘Vinny’ Show Strength

“The Player” played especially well for a small film in small release. After nine weeks, “My Cousin Vinny” headed for half-price theaters and gained business. Overall, box office remained sluggish.

Wrong gross--The cumulative gross for New Line Pictures’ “Deep Cover” is $11.7 million after four weeks in release. An estimated gross of $4 million in Tuesday’s Calendar was compiled from incomplete data.

* “Crisscross,” with Goldie Hawn, opened soft. A sneak of “Far and Away” Saturday night was sold out in all 71 theaters.
